Both Grizzly and Fenwick had their start in 1954. Don Green, an early employee of Lamiglas in 1949, split off to start Grizzly. In the same year a group of businessmen started Fenwick. Grizzly sold only blanks, and at one time was selling to 80 different companies. Fenwick was one of their early customers. By 1966 Grizzly had lost much of their customer base, so merged with Fenwick. The first Grizzly-Fenwick rods came out in 1966. I would guess the reel is also of about the same vintage. Don Green later went on to found Sage rod company.
