So the bend has been on fire and me and a group of friends have an annual trip there which is planned long in advance. We drive down on a Thursday a.m. and leave Sunday mid day. Well this year expectations were through the roof with all the reports going in. But we all know what happened this week, lol. We arrived to something between Nestle and orange juice colored water and a lake full of floaters which really restricted us to areas close to ramps. It is still the bend and 3 cast in one of our guys popped a 9.7 lb giant!! We proceeded to catch fish in each boat with catch rates increasing everyday. We had to find either small main lake pockets that were wind protected and had no Creek flow or some of the hay grass flats would have clearer patches behind them and in the holes. Tactics we caught on were many as we had everything from cool to warm, dry to wet, and cloudy to bright, to disect over 3 days. We also spent a great deal of time watching radar and hiding until it cleared wich made the patterns even harder to put together. But the baits that caught fish were spinner baits in white with dbl willow blades, baby brush hogs and beavers on 1/4 oz tx rigs in some variation of green pumpkin and watermelon with flake of several colors, Swimbaits, both 5 inch kicker fish and the new Smashtech Convict in shad patterns, LFT popper, and wacky rigged trick worms and LFT Ring Fry's in a variety of colors. The 9.7 was on the wacky LFT Ring Fry in watermelon red. I know that's a variety of info but hope it helps someone. I would say to anyone going down there water clarity is number one but fish are still biting. We had three boats and each boat had at least a 6 lber on the trip and each boat caught plenty of fish. The number of 2-4 lb fish in the lake is mind boggling. Can't imagine what it would be like when it's in good shape, lol! Here's some pics from the trip.

Indian mounds, right around the corner from hausen. You'll know when you see the Armada out front, but there is a reason they are all there

If you are headed to the Bend in the next month and a half,, start hitting the gym now and do some curls so you're not sore as hell every evening!! Lol.. Not even torrential rain falls and record high water levels could stop us from slamming some bigguns!! Til next year Bend!!!
