New to the area and have not been able to see the type of shad in Ray Roberts or Lewisville. Does anyone know what the most common shad is for these two lakes? Gizzard, Threadfin or other?

Threadfin are predominant but I foul hooked a 12" Gizzard one day while casting into a bunch of baitfish being chased by something. Bass aren't eating the Gizzards fast enough to keep them from getting big!

Thanks and this helps. Moved from GA recently and had geared up in the SE to imitate blue back herring. Trying to adjust my baits to a new primary forage base. Getting ready to put out a crawfish trap to follow the local color changes.
Before GA lived in OH and had matched the goby in Erie and St Clair. If I keep relocating soon I'll have baits to fish anywhere in the country w/o having to visit Tackle Warehouse.com! Although everywhere in the country I have fished a blk/blu jig, char/wh spinner bait, grn/pumkn drop shot, 301 wacky Senko and a green shakey head worm always seem to catch the most and biggest fish.

Add watermelon/red flake to your arsenal down here. VERY popular with the local populations of bass. Also, some chartreuse dip n dye, too. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Thad - Thanks for the tip on the watermelon / red flake color. I picked up a few different baits in that color today on sale at the Academy in Lewisville.
