I stopped by Lynn Creek Park at Joe Pool on my way home a week or so ago to do some quick bank fishing. I was greeted by the lady at the little booth/shack thing, and she wanted $10 for me to enter the park. I wasn't inclined to pay the $10 to fish for an hour, and she also told me there aren't any spots/parks on Joe Pool to fish for free. Is this true? Cause dang. Admittedly, I haven't really done much scouting of Joe Pool, cause I don't live close, but I can't imagine there aren't any places to fish for free. That being said, I don't want to waste my time if there really aren't any.

I'm headed out today to Lynn Creek Marina to do some dry crappie fishing. There are free banks but you just have to walk to them. Spillway is free and usually produces but complaints of people breaking in cars. There is Cedar Hill State Park which covers a bunch of the northeast part of lake and they charge entrance there. Maybe someone will chime in with good free bank fishing spots, I just usually fish at the state park while camping.

I figure surely there are some spots out there, but you're right--it'll probably be a hike to get to them. That being said, if you're getting bit, it's all worth it! Good luck out there today. Be safe.

We'll be in the marina and I got a little one with me. Going to test my green submersible light and the little one is bringing ipad, gameboy, blanket and pillows. We'll be there till 10pm when they close, nice and dry.

On another note the north side is where the dam is, but the south banks should have good access. Not sure how much of it is private property though.

There was a good creek to fish at Joe Pool until they built houses and took over the parking spots. I came back couple times this year but could not find any parking. I thing that creek is off limit now.
Every where else around Joe Pool that I know are charging. Lynn Creek Park still free for Grand Prairie resident.
You can kill couple hours for crappies at the Marina by the Aces restaurant. $5 for one pole and I believe $6 or $7 for 2 poles.

I haven't been there this year but if you live in Grand Prairie you get in for free. Banking can be great during the spawn.

I haven't been to this place in 20 years but I think it's still accessible. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. There is an overlook off of FM 1382. It's about a mile north of the state park entrance. Walk down the trail to the cove or hike to the rocks.

Overlook is still there and free. Just dont go out onto the rocks of the dam. Corp doesnt like people on the dam. And there are about 1,000,000 rattle snakes that live in the rocks.

What fish should I be aiming for off the banks of the State Park at this time? I'm on my way there and I was wondering what rigs would you all recommend I cast? I'm a beginner angler fishing for almost 2 years.

Pretty much bass and crappie when I used to fish there often.

All parks charge.
The State Park is the cheapest if you buy a 70 dollar year pass.
Unfortunately, the 2 bank fishing spots that are the best are closed.
They have been closed since last Mays flood.
Only the south side is open.
Daily,50 fishermen go there at a spot with room for only 25 tops.

If your looking for a spot check out Lloyd Park. Far south of Joe Pool. I think it is free.

I go to the State Park. Fishing has been bad for me due to the muddy water and the wind constantly blowing.

State Park has catfish, white bass, crappie, carp, and bluegill.

I have caught bass out there on chartreuse spinner bait. Blood dough bait for catfish. Worms for white bass. I never caught a carp but the 2 times I have seen carp caught were with worms.

Unfortunately, Loyd Park is $10 per vehicle for daily access. Britton is $5 and on the honor system, last time I checked.

I gave up trying to find bank access to Joe Pool. What's available makes you hike and leaves your vehicle in areas where there has been robberies.

I bought the State Park pass for an entire year. I live about 10 minutes away. It was worth it due to the amount of trips I take but I have caught about 7 fish there total. I blame it on half of it being shut down and the other half on water clarity and weather.
