That is how I got my stock up on cinder blocks back in the early to mid 90s when I worked for an apartment complex. Students would leave them when they moved out. And I would dispose of them to my home.

I use gallon milk jugs filled with concrete. While the concrete is still wet, I drive very long nails in it so it looks like and old mine you would see in the movies. It will grab the bottom and not slide when you check the line. A length of chain is also nice to have hanging out of the weight as well.

A lot has to do with where you are fishing....in the main part of the lake or up the river. Tree's or tree stumps are optimal in the lake, but tree roots are great on the river provided they are still green (living). I weight my lines with approximately 10-12 pound weights in 3 places. Old window weights work very well just make sure they don't have any sharp edges in the eyelet. If you need anything else, let me know. I'm going next week myself and looking forward to it.
