Any Bass Clubs postpone monthly fishing tournaments (club) based on forecasted wind. ie 20-30 forecast wind here at Amistad from the N/N/W? (not sure where to post this one).

Not sure if you want answers from just the South TX part of the world. We would not postpone/cancel a tournament because of wind. We are a trailering Club so the opportunity is there to drive to a ramp in the area you want to fish and not have to leave that area. We have canceled/postponed tournaments in the past due to snow or ice where we felt it was hazardous just getting to the lake and trying to launch your boat.

We have it in our rules that the tournament director and president will confer and cancel if it is going to be "bad". While 30 MPH could be bad we do not cancel strictly for wind. It may include cold weather, or rain.

We just fished last week in 30 mph winds with gusts to 40. Yes it was bad, but there are always places you can get out of the wind. But it wasn't cold or raining.

In 2015 we canceled 2 and in 2014 none out of 23 tournaments. This year if we cancel none we will fish 26 times.

Ok, not just S. Tx but in general. I know I don't want to be on Falcon with 30 mph wind from the North. I've let it go 20-35 and Safety of members was a concern, with a lot of complaints. Normally wait till 6am morning of tourney to call it since the 50 members are local. We are also a Trailering Club with a specific location for weigh-in location. Just asking for your thoughts or recommendations. We have bi-law's in place however there are several area's to get out of the wind and is fishable. Don't need to worry about the icing or snow in these parts but severe wx does come in play.

Yes we have cancelled tournaments due to bad weather. Usually not just wind but snow/ice, thunder storms. We called a tournament on Monticello at 11:00 AM last year when some really bad storms rolled in (heavy rain and severe lightening). It was so bad everyone (only maybe 7 boats) were on their way back to the ramp to take shelter so our TD called it.

This is just me but I've never really gotten the cancelling/postponing a fishing tournament. I've always kind of thought that if at least two people want to fish, let them go at it. This is usually what would happen with my club, especially with tourneys close to our home base. We'd stick with our plans, even though there would be some guys worried about falling behind in points and they'd try to get everyone to cancel it just because of that.

And yes, I've been one of those guys in those two man tourneys. smile

For tourneys farther away, around 30-60 miles, we'd usually cancel it if we didn't have at least two boats or four people. My club's always been kind of small, averaging around 4-7 boats per tourney. A big tourney's when 9-10 boats show up.

When you change things around at the last minute, that always affects some people who might not be able to make it. And that can be unfair in itself, too.

GO FISH!!!! smile smile smile

Seems like most thoughts are let it go on with no Severe Weather. If you want to fish then fish. Pay-out's will be limited but the Tournament should go on. Trying to Re-schedule on this lake is problem with several Tournaments on there way and NPS doesn't keep the site up to date. Thanks for your help..

Ones I've fished in past trailered so we didn't cancel unless extreme weather. Thunderstorms, lightning, tornado etc. forecasted. Coach

The way I see it. On a lake like Falcon which none of the North Texas lakes can compare. If you the TD feels it is unsafe
then cancel it. You will have to think about the litigation if someone loses their life and their family decides to sue.

Or you could give everyone the option and have them sign waivers should they choose to fish.

On Amistad when the wind picks up it can get scary in a hurry. I agree with this as TD for club it will be my decision. If I feel it will be unsafe then I postpone till the following week. Thanks guys
