Quick Question for FAYETTE regulars.... I love to bass fish out there... have a cabin for a few days next week over spring break with my younger daughter... anyone know if there is a decent population of panfish? crappie or sunfish to get the youngster hammering them? In timber? Ive never spent even one minute without a bass rod in hand...just want to prepare... Crappie? Minnows? etc... thoughts welcome

im sure you would have zero problem on Panfish with a cricket hook, some meal worms or earthworms, and a bobber smile

i would hazard a guess that most Panfish and Perch are about to spawn.. id look for them in shallow water near grass edges and timber.

Here's a few articles I read recently on various Panfish subjects - first one discusses seasonal timing of movement.

I use the size 6. They are really tiny but a long shank.

and I use the long snap on weighted bobbers for ease. Like the one on the right here http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/comal-ta...roductImageLink

Remember to tell your Daughter to "let em have it"

In other words when that bobber dissapears, let it go. If you yank right away likely you'll get a bobber in your face with half a worm on the end of it --- ask me how I know LOL

Sorry to keep pounding answers, but I keep thinking of stuff.

I think crappie might be too "technical" for a youngster, plus live minnows can be a pain to deal with - however, when fishing with night crawlers or mealworms, you also stand a chance a crappie simply nabs it.

But the little bluegill, perch and sunfish are by far the easiest to produce without much trouble. She's gonna catch 40 fish to your one smile

more tips. In the area you're going to be, chum the water with chunks of bread, and/or corn. You can also use corn kernels on the cricket hooks.

Keep the worms out of the sun, the heat really messes em up. Just a little ice to your cooler and toss em on top.

I'm from La Grange so I frequent Fayette often. I've taken my 2 year old perch jerkin a lot out there, haven't in a while but there is defently plenty of them in th lake. I'll shoot you a PM.

There are a lot of Tilapia in the lake. Use panfish baits and take as many as you want.
