I'm new to the bass thing, anytime I throw soft plastic it's either shaky head or tx rig. My question is this, does the bite feel the same and when do you throw the different rigs

All year long, with different set-ups.

Shallow, light weight, short leader, small hook and soft plastic. 4" lizard on that rig is deadly right now.

Mid depth a little heavier and longer.

Deep, 20-40 feet is where this technique shines. One ounce tungsten weight, plastic bead, double clinch knot, high quality barrel swivel, knot, leader between 36" and 84", knot, hook, bait. Fish it slow and shake it sparingly. Especially in tree tops.

Most folks use a Carolina rig where they'd use a football jig. As a reel and feel bait. A bottom disturber. And that's how it was designed to be used. In one of several scenarios. Another situation where the lure/technique shines is catching schools of females out of offshore trees. Only "worm" rig besides the TX I've ever been able to fish thru suspended timber. With frequent success.

The bite usually feels the same. Setting the hook is a little different. With the C-rig you'll want to sweep the rod tip to the side for a hook set instead of pulling straight back like a T-rig. I'll use the C-rig most anywhere except maybe on riprap because I break off a lot, but that's just me. You have to experiment with the length of the leader and believe it or not it makes a difference. Like fouzman says, it's a great rig for feeling the bottom and stirring it up.

c rig is great this time of year keep your rod to the side all the time cast it side hand so the bait/weight wont tumble work it to the side it works well when you drag the weight on the bottom and the bait will dart off to the side just a little and set the hook to the side otherwise your pulling the weight up more than you are setting the hook on the fish it works well on points anywhere you think theirs gravel or grass at the bottom my favorite baits for c rig are big 10in or bigger worms lizards and stick worms but there isnt ant soft plastic that wont work with a c rig and try different length leaders to see what works best i like using a longer leader for deeper water i used to keep different leader/swivel/hook set ups tied up and stored in bags or pill bottles to change them faster
