I had decided to go with two Garmin 93sv Chirp finders. Everywhere I have gone, all the big outdoor suppliers, say they will not ship until late March and that depends on availability. That means I would be almost up to April before I can get out and chase the crappie properly.
So, I am soliciting ideas again as to electronics on two boats. I want side imaging for the consoles that I can move boat to boat, and a good down view for the trolling motor.
Ease of operation is important to me. I don't want to have to screw with settings...I want to fish. I read threads and see tutorials as to how to tune birds and lowrance. That's precisely what I wish to avoid if at all possible.i would like, if possible, to spend less than 3000...and that includes extra transducers for another boat.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

I don't read much good about Garmin to be honest. I'd get any brand over them, heck they don't even have any Texas lakes. Well, they have 3... Whoopty do
Nevermind, just saw you aren't in Texas anyways. Garmin might be ok for your area.

Got a new to me boat so I am going to try Garmin. Ordered a 73dv (GPS and DI) to start. I figured what the heck worth a shot. The demo shots looked awesome. I Ordered Friday and will arrive Wednesday. If I like the unit I will go with the another 73/74 unit that is Panoptix compatible to put on the bow.
I am fairly certain I wont be disappointed since the current setup is an old Lowrance x27 and an Eagle 380, I catch fish with these units so I doubt the Garmin will hurt at all.
Sadly it looks like all of the 90 series units are back ordered.

I want to learn how to be a good brain surgeon, but just give me a good bone saw and a scalpel - I don't want to bother learning the details - I just want to do brain surgery.....
...is an analogy of what you are saying. I doubt you will be happy with any high-performance electronics as you want units with an 0n-Off button. That doesn't happen at the high-end bleeding edge.
Many of them will give you a fairly nice image as-is, but to really get the most out of any high performance unit, tuning is necessary - if nothing else then due to the immense variation in environment.

Try the Bird'. I got an Onix from Shut Up And Fish last year and really like it. Im about ready to pull the trigger on the Helix 9 for the bow. I like the side imaging on the Birds better. I checked into the Lowrance units and ended up with the Bird, it just seemed easier to navigate and the side image was better IMO.It took me 3-4 trips to get mine tuned in good, now its just little tweaks every now and then.

All of your assumptions are incorrect, such as "I don't want to bother learning the details", "as you want units with On/Off buttons" are not even in the ball park of being correct. Not sure why you would feel the need to attempt to belittle someone in this community. Don't let the number of posts fool you sir. Just because I said the Demo shots looks awesome on the unit doesn't mean that's why I bought it. I called them demo shots for a reason, because I know there is a difference. I vetted the Garmin against other like units and based on my budget, Garmin gets a shot. Don't care if you like Garmin or not. Compared to the data I get with a the graphs that came on the boat, everything indicates it will be an improvement, and I will be happy whether you approve or not. Perhaps I am misreading your response, I have thought about since you posted it and I hope I am indeed reading to much into it. If your intent was to strike a chord with someone today, mission accomplished.

Any electronics are going to require some degree of tuning to achieve proper performance. In the computer world, there are Apple folks and DOS folks. Apple is plug and play, and the dos folks get to play with settings (less true today).
That's all I was saying.

Wait for the Garmins. My Garmins are easy to setup and use, basically set everything on auto and go fishing. You can adjust colors, fine tune etc but it is really not necessary. "3 maps in Texas", really? I fish all the east Texas lakes and all but 1 has 1' contours. Granted the Lake Vu HD does not have contours on Falcon, but that is the only major lake that does not have contours that I have found. I don't know about Kentucky, but I bet most of the lakes there are covered as well. Garmin is updating their maps as I type and will shortly have all the lakes. Wait for the Garmins and enjoy.

How do they make maps for lakes that are 30' low?

Just got my unit today and haven't installed yet, but from what I read you can offset the map up or down based on current water levels at the lake. The maps will then adjust on screen based on the input. Again I have not performed that function, but read that it exists, I also believe it talks about it in the video on the Garmin webpage for lakevu.
