Well I am normally really chasing them hard by now. With the great weather chased the green bass for a bit. I've been on fish for almost a month across the state wish I could have made the Sabine week before the rain but that's fishing still caught a few pigs. Been an odd start to the run normally find a lot of goldfish late Jan early February and with the weather being so nice I thought it would be on. On the contrary lots of scouts and small males. Today on the other hand fish were balled up in every hole at the mouth of the lake getting ready to move on in with the rain. Until the clouds covered us it was on charging clousers from several feet others trying to take it from them on the way in. So I guess I'm going hard core for next 45-60 days. As much as I go I'm going to update here to keep the cacti on uncluttered. So no hijack here feel free to post sandbass trips success pics or videos from where ever. Lord knows mine will be from a wide variety of small creeks and big rivers. Good luck to all this year. Just please stay out of the one last metro creek I have that has zero other anglers in the middle of Dfw I like having that in my back pocket lol.

Ole blue river master Mateo and I really had a great day today no small fish to speak of fantastic day on the water. I was woried going in none and I mean none of the baitchunkers had a stringer in the water. Finally walked over to where two guys were fishing ask how it was? Said nothing they just are not here yet. At this point we were close enough to see the mass school of sandbass just swimming around their lures lol. Found a good deep pool unoccupied and hopped in. When we got situated where we wanted didn't life a foot for two hours. Some other friends flyfishing were finding equal success. This rain coming in is going to throw gas on a fire. Few good shots from today. . there were a lot of doubles today it's finally really on!!!!!

Yea. We did really well. If these white bass aren't biting, I have several tips for the aspiring white bass flyrodder. First things first, don't waste your time throwing flies at the fish before you take your water temp. Get your stream thermometer out and take at least three readings at different depths. Get out your garmin handheld and take and elevation reading. Then take a BP reading from your Howell Inst. weather watcher pro handheld. If you are cheap you can just look it up on your new IPHONE 6. Take all those numbers and go ahead and triangulate that data on the McLanes Standard charts and that will give you a factor number to overlay against the DO reading number. I recommend the Hannah dissolved oxygen pen for that reading. Once you get that number you can look up the the recommendations on the fly matrix table you can find in McLanes.

Then, take out your seine and see if you can get some food samples out of each depth you just measured. This is where it gets tricky. You need to do field microbe count. The prominent food source needs to be cross referenced through a Greenlee color spectrum gauge. That will help you match the hue in your fly box. Yesterday after all of our stream studies the matrix pointed us to a clouser in chartreuse. But don't just go for that.

Then you need to take a stream flow velocity reading from your handheld HdroMax velocitrometer. They're cheap, and you might as well not fish if you don't own one. This number will get you your recommended line strength number. This is where you need to be darn sure you have at least 6 different tippet spools on your lanyard. We ran out measurements and matched some invisix 8#.

It's no wonder those bait slingers in the lawn chairs weren't catching. It's a lot to go through but if you skip any of these steps, you won't catch a fish.

Also, two guys on the river didn't have the right waders on and weren't even wearing buff masks. They didn't catch cr@p.

[censored]! That explains why I was using a green clouser instead of charteuse. I skip the Greenlee color spectrum measurement. bang
Probably would have caught two more fish if I had paid better attention to the steps.

Caught some fat girls today. They were about to pop. Males were definitely ready to fertilize.

This is greatness. Have you watched the Hank Patterson videos?

If you go up in a boat just go slow the sandbars move all over the place.
