It's been a while since I've caught a bluegill. I was bass fishing and had packed up to leave and decided to throw some jigs out just to try out a new rod that I bought. Turns out the bass wanted the little jigs more than the big lures and a couple of angry bluegill took the bait, and the fight was on. 45 minutes later, I finally did make "one last cast" after some serious fun. I know not to put the bass on the ground, but I had already dropped him so I grabbed a picture.

Nice fish. Will not belong until you will be catching a lot of sunnies. They will be turning on very soon. Already seeing it down here. cheers

Thanks for the comments guys. Banker, can't wait for them to really turn on. I'm thinking maybe the next full moon with the consistent warm weather we've had. Gitter Done, I really like that sam heaton. That's the 7 footer in ML. I really wouldn't want to see what the UL would do if a large bass hit, which inevitably would happen!

Nicely done !! How come i never get lucky with night full moon fishing . I think i am going to start learning using artificial jigs for those bluegills.

I'm by no means an expert, the other guys on here are way more knowledgeable, but I catch bluegills in the day mostly. The first light and morning is the best, right before and at sunset is also good. As far as using lures instead of worms, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a sunfish fisherman who would advocate artificials over some sort of worm, maggot, etc. as being more effective.
