Just got my unit today and haven't installed yet, but from what I read you can offset the map up or down based on current water levels at the lake. The maps will then adjust on screen based on the input. Again I have not performed that function, but read that it exists, I also believe it talks about it in the video on the Garmin webpage for lakevu.

No, you don't understand. Our lakes have been down 20'-30' for a decade now. There's no way they could have mapped Falcon & Amistad properly.

All the manufacturers use USGS survey charts in combination with actual on water charting along with other sources to make their maps. The USGS charts show every tiny detail. The lakes were not only low for Garmin, but for everyone that is in the mapping business. That includes Lowrance who keeps coming out with new insight versions, V14, V15, etc.

Yeah, I know. My Navionic card is missing 20' of Choke.

But I always have heard that Garmin makes their own maps, must not be true. Maybe the ultra are their own maps.

Maps created from Garmin's own survey crews are the "MaxDef" lakes.

Nevermind, just saw you aren't in Texas anyways. Garmin might be ok for your area.

As AJ pointed out above, Garmin now has 11 MaxDef lakes in Texas, along with another 105 HD lakes with 1 foot contours.

Todd, How do they survey a lake that hasn't been full in over 6 years? Is the Mexico side of Falcon & Amistad both mapped too?

I saw that the new update allowed multi-color water depths, that is an awesome feature!

I have a 998 on console and just installed a 73sv on bow. I personally think the 73sv has a better sv image. I have been bird all along but any more units for me will be garmin. I know all the haters will chine in did you set bird up and yes it has been set up.

I love my Garmin Echomaps. The Humminbirds are mighty nice though.
