Was waiting on a delivery at the lake house at Neely Slough and decided to go try from the bank since I don't have the BRA sticker for the boat yet. Caught 3 stripers and a 14 inch largemouth in about twenty minutes slow rolling a chartreuse wildeye. Best one was 22 inches and kept for dinner. Water was very clear with a lot of green algae everywhere.

I'll be back in a few days and find out if the sandies are running at Rock creek. Saw lots of surface action early and late.

Nice fish!

BTW, the BRA sticker was done away with in September, and yes the sandies are in Rock Creek.

Last week:

Thanks for the tip. That's a very nice box of fish.

I stopped at the BRA office on the way home and verified just what you said. No more BRA stickers. This is something I have never seen in my entire near 60 year life: a government agency giving up revenue.I'm not complaining but I have to say it's odd. Now TPWD needs to stop charging us to fish at state parks.

I'm gonna be out at PK next Friday/Saturday and I'm hoping to get on a few sandies. I'm also hoping to find some crappie shallow. From what I understand they aren't plentiful in PK but I hope a few will be in the cove by the Aunt's lake house (Veale Creek).

I bet every creek at PK is full of sand bass right now. You'll be hard pressed to catch a crappie even if they are there. By the time they look at the look the sandie will grab it and be hooked and be chased around by a dozen of his brethren trying to take it away from him.

I hope they're in there. Are you familiar at all with Veale Creek? Its over on the east side near Bailey's.

Not looking for your secrets but how are you guys fishing? Would love to put my son in some fish (he's 4 and loved it) I have a boat but mostly cat fish. Are you finding them with a graph? Or just casting like bass? Fishing vertically?

I was just casting from the bank where I knew they would be if they were in the slough. That said, I went to Rock Creek at the 577 bridge yesterday and caught Nada. No one else was catching anything either. I suspect the sand bass run is a week or two off.

If you have a boat and a young'un this is what I would do:

1. Go up creeks until you find fish in big numbers on the fishfinder. If you locate spawning sandies, the graph will will totally fill.

2. Put two swivels on about 6 inches apart and attach two chartreuse roadrunners with a chartreuse and white rage tail.

3. Enjoy watching your son catch sandies one right after the other.

Spring is an awesome time to fish. if you want your boy to learn to fish, now is the time to make memories that will last a lifetime.
