Okay, so I have a 2012 Nitro Z8 and I know very little about batteries. I have three batteries on the Nitro. One is stand alone and the other two are wired in a series from what I can tell. The charger that goes to the batteries in a series has died. So, I need a new charger. The brand of chargers on there now are made by Guest and the one that does is an 8 amp.

That's a start. The first thing that comes up in a search is the Minn Kota Chargers. Does anyone have any advice on the Minn Kota chargers? It seems like they have a decent warranty compared to the others I found. Also, is there anything special I need to know about buying a charger to work for those batteries in a series?

From what I've read, they are good chargers. I have a Noco on mine and after a year it still does fine. A year is not really long enough to establish a history though, a good charger should last closer to 10 years if not longer.

Thank you for the input! I'll check out the Noco charger also.

The Kota's are good along with the Pro series of chargers(dual pro/tri-pro). Look into the Stealth chargers if your interested in a AC/DC combined system.

The batteries in series is for your 24V trolling motor and the single battery is your cranking battery for the outboard as well as electronics, bilge pumps, livewell etc.. You need a 3 bank battery charger to charge all three at the same time. One set of leads goes to each individual battery. Usually the higher the amperage of a charger the faster it is able to recharge the batteries. Also need to determine what type of batteries (Flooded wet cell, AGM, Gel cell) they are as that will have a bearing on what type of charger should be used.I have used a Minn Kota charger for the past 5 years with no issues. What makes you think your current charger is bad? I would first test each bank of your current charger prior to replacing it.

Spot on. Have someone test the battery as you may have a dead cell.
