Guess I'm not sure why this is a bad thing. Sounds like what a lot of manufacturers do to protect their design. It is fairly common that there are knock offs...Dr. Pepper - Dr. Thunder for example. Protecting proprietary elements of an original design or ingredients in their products is just a good business practice to prevent others from riding on the coattails of the original and prevent them from capitalizing on something that wasn't their idea in the first place. Individuals that make their own lures for small local business or personal use is one thing and typically overlooked but when another manufacturer of a national brand does it the patent and trademark will protect the original. The original design of the bait was not their own it had been around for a while and they got the original patent on it. I'm not going to blow up with what I really think about the baits but I will never buy one. I can build mine better for about a third of the price if not a 1/4 of the price with a top quality hook and skirt. This is just my opinion from the quality stand point, will theirs catch fish absolutely it will could it be built much better? Yes

Just my opinion formed from recent experience, the bladed jig or ChatterBait with a trailer is a Big fish bait in 62 or more degree low visibillty water. A spinner bait my work just as well, but I believe that the vibration of a bladed jig may be stronger on a slow speed retrieve.

I bought 2 of the "Z-man chatterbaits" and they were both junk. If they are the only ones making them for now on, then I'll never throw another one.
