Does anyone have some current info? I'm taking my 9 year old son and my girlfriends 18 year old son out there this weekend. Things I'd like to know...
Time of day, does it matter?
Jigs (colors of bodies & weight on jig heads)
Minnows
How deep should we be fishing?

Remember a 9 year old has a short attention span...

Forget the crappie there. Fish for bream instead. It is very rare that people are catching consistently. Very rare. I grew up 1 mile from barge and fished it probably 50 times when I was a kid. Get some Earth worms, bream hooks and a little split shot. You can see the bream down on the bottom, drop it to the bottom and reel it up a few turns. Catching is better than fishing any day especially for a 9 year old.

I have heard from a good friend that they have been pulling limits out of the "crack" on the outside

Sounds like red worms, maybe jigs and minnows?

If u have to fish for crappie there, the crack is the best spot. Minnows are best there. But like I said before, it is very rare that people are catching there consistently. Walk around and see if anybody has a stringer full of fish and you will know if they are biting real quick but I wouldnt bet on it. Don't get your hopes up too much. If people were pulling limits out of there consistently it would be know for being a good fishing hole which it is not. I have lived here for 40 years and grew up next door to the barge. If u wanna catch some fish on lewisville, book a trip with Steve shiele guide service. He actually leaves out of the barge and is an awesome guide.
