Ok , so I recently purchased a 5th wheel camper. I would like to be able to take both my camper and my boat to the lake at the same time. My super duty has enough tow rating to pull both , but the state of Texas says maximum triple towing length is 65'. My rig combined total length is 70'. Now from time to time I do see other guys towing both , and they do look well over the max length. Is there some kind of " exception " to the rule I can't find. Or are these guys just running the risk of getting caught?

Any info would be very helpful

Thanks

Measure from the front bumper of the truck to the rear of the boat. With all hooked up.

I did. It's 70 feet. From the tip of the lower unit , to the front bumper on the truck.

Lots of people do it without a problem. 65 foot is the legal limit if your over it its against the law. The ones doing it are taking their chances... my luck I wouldn't make it off my street without a citation.

It's too long. You can get a big ticket and be shut down and not allowed to move.
By the way that is pulling doubles not triples. Triples are not legal in Texas.

I have to take two vehicles, my wife tow's the boat while I drag the trailer, not too bad now that gas is cheaper but it is expensive nonetheless.

Been there, done that. Not a fan of trains. It's dangerous imo.

Triples ARE legal in Texas.

This is what we have to do. My wife won't stand for me to double tow, she'd never get in the truck. Honestly I think the fuel consumption of me double towing would be more than us taking two vehicles both towing. At current fuel prices we just take two vehicles and don't look back. But that's only if you have a wife that is comfortable towing and you actually have two adequate tow vehicles.

ChuChu1 , yes I know triples are legal in Texas. I guess Slim1 didn't do his research. LOL. I believe it's called triple because there is a total of 3 vehicles , correct?

And HaulinBass , having my wife tow the boat is an option for us. But to be honest , I would feel more comfortable towing both the camper and the boat behind my truck than having her tow the boat. HAHA.

I looked at the links ChuChu1 posted and it still says 65 feet , but how is that measured? Do the measure from the front bumper of the truck to the stern of the boat , and consider the motor overhang? Or do they measure front bumper to prop? If the motor is considered overhang I can get real close to the 65' mark.

Furthest forward point to furthest rearward point, or front bumper of truck to tip of skeg.

I just pulled my 33' bumper pull camper and 17.5' deep v over 400 miles. Total length is 81.5'. Passed several hwy patrols. No issues. Stayed straight the whole way going 65 mph. Go ahead and join the club.

Wow , 81 feetsie. had a friend told to drop one several years ago halfway to Amistad Lake down south . Called me out of Odessa to come down and pick up his Ranger that was gonna be parked on side of the road out of Comstock Tx. Middle of no where. He was 70 feet and a few inches. Afraid to leave that high dollar boat or camper there. It's who you get on the end of that ticket book.
