Looking at the possibility of a trip to Austin. Want to combine family visit with fishing a new-to-me lake. Any thoughts on these three would be appreciated. I know Lady Bird is electric motor only.
Thanks

I been doing the same thing for several years, going down to visit Inlaws. Lake Austin used to be my favorite, had some amazing trips there in years past. There is no grass, fishing is tough. Lady Bird is fun and unique, you are fishing right in downtown. The trolling only issue stinks and watch out to the row teams because they do not watch out for you. I haven't fished Travis in a few years, but hear good things. Travis has awesome scenery, and is huge, fun lake to explore. My new favorite Centex lake would be Lbj. It is just a great fishing lake. It is constant level has grass, pads, docks, deep rocky points and 2 river systems.

I would fish lady bird, some giants in there. It is on the list to fish for sure, just crank the trolling motor on high and go haha

If you decide on ladybird, Team Toad Slam will be going on Sat. Over 100 registered anglers. I've been on ladybird 3 out of the last 4 weekends, spawn is on.

Wow! Thanks for the quick responses. What was an interest has turned into something I need to look at real hard. Timing wise, I'm looking at during the week starting on March 7.
Thanks again.

Not only will the Team Toad Slam be going on, some sort of international rowing race thingy will be going on too apparently. Although the lake is on fire, it might be more trouble than its worth. Lake Austin isn't what it used to be, but it still has giants in there. Travis is a numbers lake, big fish are tough to come by. With the water up 50 feet from this time last year, it could be tougher than normal too. Good luck!

Also, don't discount Bastrop... Already catching 30 fish a day out there on a frog... So thats fun.

I'd go to LBJ

I've been fishing LBJ hard for the past few months with little to show for it. Lake Austin is a mud hole now and fishing is tough. I've never been on Travis but I hear it's coming around. Never been on Lady Bird Lake but I know there are some big ones in there. I'd recommend that you go to Bastrop. You can catch 3 pounders there all day on a frog, with the occasional 5 pounders every now and then. Decker is a fun lake as well. If you want big fish, go to LBJ, Austin, or Lady Bird, with Austin being the best chance. If you want numbers, go to Travis, Decker or especially Bastrop

Lake Austin is a dump compared to just 2 years ago. I wouldn't waste my time there. Definitely better options around

I fished Lake Austin yesterday, I payed a visit to most of my brush piles, and graphed a few fish, but no takers. I also went up a few coves and creeks looking for spawners, but didn't find any. I would pass on Lake Austin if I were you. Lake Travis can be good, its very scenic with a ton of water to cover.
I would go with the previous recommendations of Lady Bird Lake, I was out there recently and fishing is pretty good.
Bastrop is also a good bet, its an easy lake to figure out, fish a frog near the reeds or a wacky rigged senko. Good luck!
