Just sold my 8' Pelican Raider because one time out my 15 yr old son said it was too cramped with both of us on it. Can't decide on Raider 10e or predator style. He likes predator because he says he thinks he can stand up in it easier. I don't want to trailer it only load in truck. We are both right at and under 200 lbs. My wife gave me a budget of about $850 and I have some supplies left from the 8 footer. Batt, paddles etc. Going nuts trying to figure it out. Would like to fish coves and such in some of the bigger lakes like Roberts or Grapevine. Not out in the middle. Any thoughts?

That's a tough one with the 10e I have it feels great with just me if my girlfriend comes with the second chair it's not bad she is small though. Even with her on there it still gets a little cramp you will have to keep everything organized and know actually where everything is. My opinion if you need room go with the predator since it has its own little pods for each person

Never been in a predator. Used to have a 10e. My buddy and I could stand up and fish no problem. Didnt have chairs. Heck we had 3 of us on it once fishing in a 10acre pond. LOL. They are way more stable than a 10 or 12' jon boat.

Yeah, was thinking about a jon boat but been in them before and they are kind of tippy. When you have a teenager thumping around you need some stability!

Based on his age and size I would get 2 rigs and stack them in the truck. Tie em down and you each fish one.

You can use 2 way radios for communication and have a blast!

That's an idea. Could get 2 8 footers.

I have a Predator and it's a great boat. I will take larger water than the 10e and you can put it in the bed of a truck ( I carry mines in the back of a small Nissan truck). The Predator weighs more than the 10E and it takes some effort for one man to move it around. It's easy with two people. I fish under alot of bridges in mines and it has held up well. I have a 5hp for mines but half the time I leave it at home and only use the trolling motor. The 10E is a lighter boat and if you fish by yourself it will be the better choice without a trailer. Both have there pros and cons and it really boils down to what type of fishing you do. I would not be crazy about standing up in either one of them with two people on board.

I am leaning towards the Predator. Just have to find one at the right price. Anybody have one of those 12' Pelican intruders? Plastic jon boat? Saw one for a good price. Are they as tippy as metal jon boats?

They are the are same as s flat bottom boats. I certainly would not stand up in one. They are shallow water boats only.

The idea of two boats is not bad. The smaller ones can be had for not much money.

I have to tell you, took my brother out in my Bass Hunter EX thats the 9.5 foot model and it was sketchy.

I am 230# he is #210 with gear and the motor etc. It was really sitting low.

Even small waves were just a hair from swamping us. For the record we were over loaded per the coast guard plate lol.

Get two boats. Thats what I think.

And for the love of god no jon boat styles. Very tippy indeed. I mean they are fine if you dont want to stand at all.

Thanks for all the replies. Ended up getting a Basstender 10.2 with a 3hp mercury and a 30lb thrust trolling motor. Its a 2003 so it is all open inside unlike the Predator. Still has live well and battery storage. The two large men that I got it from said it was pretty stable for both of them even when they fished bigger lakes. Of course they were selling me the boat so who knows but they seemed like stand up guys. Any way I think we will get some use out of it

I had a 5 hp on a boat similar to that one. It pushed the boat more than anything. But trolling was fun. It just kept me from running down the trolling batteries getting to a fishing hole.
