Considering the 94sv. I don't know much about them, so comments re reliability and service will be helpful.

One of the deciding factors for me is the fact that the wiring runs to the mount, not the head unit itself. This is ideal for me since my plan is to use the same unit on both boats. Just buy an extra transducer and mount and I should be ready to switch with ease. Given the cost of electronics today, seems to me this is the way they all should be.

Any suggestions re what to run on the bow?

Thanks again folks.

Use the 93SV and 73DV. Work like a charm. Might check but I think the 94SV is loaded with coastal and saltwater maps. 93SV is loaded with lake vu.

You are correct. It is the 93 that I am looking at. Good to learn you are happy with your setup. That's what I am thinking of with the chirp technology.

PH, I usually run the chirp downvu and the standard sonar on split screen. The downvu shows structure, bottom, weeds, timber, etc. really well and the standard sonar shows fish arches well. By using the combination you have every view covered. Then add the Panoptix ps21 and you will see what's out front of your trolling motor. Then you can show Panoptix on the top half of the screen and traditional/downvu on split screen on the bottom half.

I agree....Garmins traditional sonar readout is the best I have seen. Need to tow with the DV settings a bit, but its a clean picture.

Let me ask you guys this one. I went to Gander Mountain today with my mind pretty set on a 93sv on the console, and perhaps a 73dv, both the chirp models, on the bow. The guy there had s good point. The console is right in front of you at eye level. There a 7inch should be fine. On the bow, he suggested going as large as the budget will allow. Screen is down at your feet. You are moving etc.

I know this sounds backwards...what is your opinion?

It's preference really. I use my 93 at the console because I may run split screens and they are just easier to see when split on the bigger screen. I also don't like my side vu on the trolling motor.

I run my 73 dv on the trolling motor and the smaller 53 DV on the console. If you're wanting to save a few dollars then I think you're on the right track.

Do you sit in a chair on the bow ? They have ram mounts that are longer and easier to see your electronics. Bigger at the console is much more important to me . I'm in search mode at the console .

I have a Ram mount as well with the 6" extension. Makes it easier to see and easier to push buttons. Don't have to get on my hands and knees to change functions.

I suppose there are those with sufficient dexterity with their toes to work the buttons, but I am not one of them.
