anyonone own one of the new 2072 alumacraft bay boats. im looking for a boat that i can fish salt and fresh. this boat is set up for both but i do not know much about them. looking for opinions. thanks

They are *OK* but there's better and not any of the bass guys trying to figure out saltwater.
Gandy-White, Empire, several more build a boat that will live a much longer life.

If you are going to run aluminum in saltwater, Boatright is the way to go.

Boatright was my brain cramp, they do build solid hulls.

It's all fun and giggles in the bay in your shiny glass hull, right up until you scrape over an oyster reef. No glass hull made can tolerate that. Iron boats just crush them and head on down the pond.

I did a look see on the boats recommended here and it seems all are custom order only, didn't find any used ones for sale either. What type of turnaround time one a custom order boat, limited production boat? Oh yea, empire is no longer making boats. Know of any place that offers used boats for sale on these boats. They are very well built boats

Can't speak of the others, but finding a used Boatright will be difficult at best, and probably not any cheaper than getting a new one.

Used Boatrights are hard to come by, they are really well built and tend to become family heirlooms,

I would imagine that they will cost twice what an alumacrap will, but will last 10 times as long

The difference between a true saltwater ready rig and one that's just "sold" for saltwater is huge.
True boats will have a minimum of .030 gauge aluminum, with serious amount of internal structure, you can't push on a boatright or white hull and see it flex, you sure can on the crossover bass hulls.

The list is long on differences, everything from what wiring and connectors are used, to how floors and consoles are attached. The more you know, the less attractive the big brands become.

I have a custom made 2072 from Long Beach Custom Boats... He makes semi-v, deep-v and his specialty is flat bottom boats... I absolutely love my boat. When I was stationed in Pensacola about 8 months ago, I would regularly take it 6 miles out catching kings, cobia, snapper, trigger fish etc. It is built better then any big name brand out there. Ive been itching to take it to Corpus but I dont know the area and dont want to risk messing anything up. It floats in less then 8 inches of water.

I was researching a new aluminum work boat in 2014 and came across a pair of boat builders that I liked in South Louisianna. Hanko's and Sculley's. They have websites and build top notch boats!
