Looking to buy a new graph from Hummingbird particularly the 999. I like it because you can split the screen-one side imaging and the other down imaging. What do you guys think about the Onix series?

Onix series is very very expensive. The Helix series takes advantage of the functions you are wanting at a fraction of the price of the ONIX units. The older series units still work great, but to me if you are ready to invest the money, you might as well get newer tech that will last, as a lot of the Helix units are supposed to be 25% faster than the previous generation. 2cents

The 999ci HD SI Combo and all the models with number names have been discontinued. The Helix series has replaced them.

With the ONIX, you can create your own custom multi-view panels with up to four views.

The ONIX SI unit's transducer has a dedicated Down Imaging crystal.
The Helix and number series SI transducers do not have a dedicated DI crystal and get the DI view by blending the two SI pulses.

I just bought two Helix units last week, 12 & 9. I love them. SI, DI, and mapping kills Lowrance. 2D Sonar is better with Lowrance from what my experience has been so far. I've got a lot to learn with the new units, though. First experience with Birds. I think Helix is the workhorse of the Birds. With such an improved brightness of screen, no glare, higher pixels, awesome screen SI and DI, faster processor......go with Helix. You'll be glad you did. I bought mine from David at Shut-up-and-fish. He will fix you up. GL!
