Hey guys!! I am totally new to white bass fishing and wanted to hit y'all up for some info!

1. What soft baits/hard baits are good for them?
2. What kind of live bait are good for them?
3. What lb test line do I want to be using?
4. What length/action type rod should I shoot for when fishing white bass?
5. What type and size of hooks do you use for live bait (minnows)?

I think that about covers it! They are running at Granger Lake and I wanna go have some fun!

Thanks guys!

You probably Have what you need if they are running, they will hit just about anything with white or chartruese that you can toss far enough. 12 Pound test should do the trick. Never have used live bait.

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

A Wally World Zebco 33 combo with 10 lb test is our go to with 1/8 oz roadrunner jigs in chartreuse or white. Minnows work well also.

Alot depends on how you will be fishing. I like soft plastics due them being cheap. Anything in the 2 inch range with a 1/16 jig head will work. Alot of folks throw spinners and small crank baits. I will use them open water but not creeks. I don't like losing expensive baits. Minnows make great white bass bait. I like to use a size #4 or #6 bait holder hook. Hook them thru the lips or dorsal fin. I use a 7ft medium light spinning rod with 6lb test. If hybrids are lurking I move up to a 8lb test line. Go have some fun.

I fish on the big lakes for them, but when I used to fish in flowing creeks and rivers in the early spring spawn, I used spin-cast - like the Zebco 33 above - with a #2 Mepps Aglia silver spinner and had good success. I've also observed guys fishing for them below dams with dead shad and just slaying them. Good luck.

Depends on where you are fishing.
Light spinning tackle in creeks and rivers with 1/8 oz beetle spins and roadrunners.
For deeper, open water, use heavier lures such as rattletraps and spoons.
For really deep fishing, use heavier spoons and jigs fished vertically.

When they are running I lake to use small crank baits. White colors seem to always do good for me. If I where fishing Granger, I would use 20 lb braid and take some extra treble hooks and snap rings. That way when you get hung on the timber you can straighten or break the hook and save your expensive crank bait.

The lures I use the most for white bass and hybrids are made by Redneck Fishing (http://www.redneckfishn.com). Bryon Nolan owns the company and I have been using his lures since 2005. This is my 11th year of using his lures almost exclusively and they continue to be the best lure on the market! I use the 180 TNT lure (only in the 2 ounce weight) in either Silver Holographic or Chartreuse and White. Both of these lures are deadly on fish! It is a great idea to keep both colors on hand.

Due to the weight of these lures, I only use PowerPro braided line in the 30 pound size and only on a baitcaster reel. These lures cannot be effectively fished on a spinning reel.

For top water fish, I prefer a ounce or 5/8 ounce lipless crankbait in black and silver or blue and silver. These baits are fished on a spinning reel and can be fished with either 20 pound PowerPro braid or a 10 pound monofilament line like Trilene XL Casting. It is important to remember that monofilament must be changed every 3 months to prevent it building up a memory and taking on a spring-like appearance. Braid can be used for at least a year under most circumstances.

Braid also allows you to put a little extra pressure on a stuck lures and often retrieve it when mono would have broken.
