I have about 1,500 miles on my ecodiesel right now. Had a little more hwy miles on this last tank other than just back and forth to work. I could sure get used to 600 miles on a tank of fuel. At this point my first tank, the worst was 25 mpg. With this last tank, the truck is getting comparable mileage to what I was averaging out of a 4 cylinder car or our escape.

Have you hand calculated a tank yet? I'd be curious if it's actually a little lower.

Yes I hanc calculated the second tank and it came out about 1 mpg lower hand calc than what the computer said. Given that actual should be around 27.9. I will also check this tank when I fill it. Im pretty ocd when it comes to checking fuel mileage and taking care of my vehicles (mechanically, they rarely get a bath)

I ended up putting about 100 more milles of city/heavy traffic mixed driving on the tank. When I filled up the Computer said 28.0 mpg and hand calc said 26.96... which im calling 27 and kept pretty much straight up a mile per gallon optimistic. I had 614 miles on the tank. And that's a 26 gal tank.

Has anyone towed a 21' boat with it yet? Interested in performance and mpg

That is impressive mileage....would you mind describing which vehicle you have the eco-diesel in please? If it's a truck, I think it is a winner if it will tow fine.

I have a 2015 Ram 1500 Tradesman 3.0 ecodiesel, 8 speed auto trans, 4x4, 3.55 gears, crew cab.

I haven't hooked it up to a trailer yet, but we are going to the coast with 24-foot center console in a few weeks and I may take it.

Most diesels I have driven seem slower while driving around empty when compared to gas motors and faster/more at home when towing than (naturally aspirated)gas motors. Drop it to 7th gear and it has quite a bit of grunt to me, but like I said I haven't towed with it yet. I have been reading mid to hi teens towing with them... but again it isn't a power house of a motor or truck, think more of it like the little engine that could that gets really good fuel mileage.

This has made me think back... Several years ago I ran across a shop that put small 4 cylinder diesels in 1/2 ton chevy's. I thought about it while I had mine and decided not to... now I regret not doing it.

OK, thanks for the info on vehicle. I tow an 18.5 boat and mostly local so a truck like yours would do fine.

I got right at 18 pulling a 21' skeeter from Boerne to del rio. That included running around in town for 3 days. Ran the speed limit and above, locked the tranny in 7th and set on cruise. Rarely downshifted once up to speed.

How many miles you have on it? Did you use tow haul? What gears do you have? and are you still happy?

Love mine, so far its exactly what I expected.

Thanks

Is 3.55 gears the most common in these trucks? Are there other options?

I think they have 2 rear end options 3.55's (the gas mileage oriented rear end) and 3.92's the towing/power oriented but little less mpg rear end. There may be another option but I don't think so.
