Fished from 10 till 5 and only caught 11 and all were small. Did break one off but I think it was the line not size that did it. I did spend a lot of time graphing and marking new areas for later in the season though. SB on points and pitching into thick nasty wood was the only way I could get bit. Lots of short strikes on the SB and did not have any trailer hooks in the boat. Water temps ranged from 66 to 72. Only pattern I could establish was if bait was skipping on top I could get bit.

Did see quite a few large gators to make things interesting also.

Thanks for the report. I've never fished Choke, but going on Saturday. I know the lake level is about 23' low, any tips on dangers etc.
thank you,
Emmett

Oh Emmett, there is some danger! When coming out of Calliham park, stay in the channel. Do not hug the bank on the right side of Calliham point. There's a boat sinker over there, I don't recall the exact depth where it will get you; but stay in the channel.

Also, don't try to run in the dark. It won't end well for you.

If I remember tomorrow night I'll get the coords of the widow maker.

That area around Calliham is like a mine field of old oil wells, cisterns, and foundations from old buildings.
The old town was flooded once the lake came up after the dam was built, and they didn't remove many of those widow makers. OMG

Just one more cast!

In case anybody cares and they don't want to rip a hole in their boat big enough to sink it.

This map is set 23' low, the white area is currently out of the water (dry land now). Don't go by the contour depths # written because they aren't right, subtract 23' from them and that's the depth. Stick these into your graph with some kind of hazard icon.

Choke canyon hazards, these gps coords aren't exact but they are pretty close.

N 28 29.487 (old iron well head #48 on the map)
W 98 20.755'

N 28 29.553'
W 98 20.124' (concrete tower/windmill stand??, boat sinker! #17 on the map)

N 28 28.029' (concrete chunks with rebar sticking out, approx area, Naylors Pond dam)
W 98 15.957'

Grout-scout, thank you for the danger. I will stay in the marked Chanel when using the big motor for sure. While using the troll motor we will keep an extra close eye on the electronics and water. I will definitely take your advice and not run in the dark.
Thank you to jimbo.

Emmett

There is no marked channel. Coming out of Calliham can be kinda tricky because it has a series of "S" turns that you can only see on a graph. I don't think the lake is low enough to be too concerned but watch your depth. If I remember correctly it starts to get hairy at 25' low.
