Last year I upgraded to a Lowrance HDS7 Gen2 Touch and I just recently found out that I can network it with the HDS5 in the bow and get down imaging on the HDS5. I realize the HDS5 will use the structure scan transducer at the back of the boat for the down image but will it still use the trolling motor transducer for the 2D sonar image or will it use both of the transducers at the back of the boat (that's 20ft. away)? That makes a lot of difference when trying to stay on crappie.
Thanks for any insight.

You can use the TM transducer and pull DI/SI from the transom transducer. Just make sure you have the network "OFF", other wise it will be using both transom transducers. Just run an Ethernet cable from the Touch graph to the 5 for networking capabilities.

If the 5 is a gen 2 (which I doubt it is) then they can even share map cards if you have an update past the 2.0. If your 5 is a gen1 then disregard these last 2 sentences.

Thanks for the info. I ordered the cable earlier and I'll have to do a little homework after I get it hooked up.
