I live in central Illinois and was wondering how of cold water temps you get in your area and your choice of lures to use during these conditions.
We get ice here sometimes as thick as 15" inches. But once we get the ice off the lakes and a few days of warmer weather and some sunshine, the water temps start to rise. When the water temps get to the low 40's I can start catching bass on shallow flats, 2' to 4' of various lures. And it seems I have better chance if the area has old lily pad stems on the flats.
Black/blue chatterbaits, large blade spinnerbaits, Manns baby minus 1 and Rapala shallow shad rap

6th Sense Crush Flat 75X You pretty much hit the nail on the head with those baits you mentioned. Around here, when the water gets cold, I like to draw a reaction bite. And I do that with this crankbait. It's flat so it has that tight wiggle that's so good in the Winter. It comes with good hooks and quality components, not to mention the colors are freaking awesome! Megabass Drunk Fly Another good bait that I like is this little jig in a black or black/red color. This little guy is very good at enticing bites in cold water because of it's unique, compact size. It's a weird looking bait but I catch A LOT of fish on this bait in cold water, and throughout the year. The head design is my favorite part about this little guy because it makes the jig stand up and perform a defensive craw position. It's a great little tool to have in your arsenal for cold water. The best advice I can give you is to fish SLOOOOWWW or create a reaction bite. Points and creek channel swings are your friend at the moment as well. Any place where the channel swings up against the bank and there's shallow water close by, is good for cranking and slow rolling a spinnerbait. Don't forget to throw a jerkbait around bluff walls! Hope this helps you and tight lines.

Strange looking jig but I might have to check that out. I did forget about using a jerkbait. I used to throw it a lot but then one gets to catching fish on other lures and tends to forget about those lures that used to produce. In fact my biggest bass was caught on a jerkbait in 42 degree water on November 1st a few years ago. Hmmm... i think the pager might date how long ago that has been 8 lbs 4 oz
