I was watching some YouTube videos of Ronnie Capps, and he said that he used to put out a ton of brush until he got side imaging and down imaging. He now just uses brush that's already there instead of adding his own. How do you guys feel about this? On one hand, you can put out brush, find it easily, and fish it. On the other hand, you can just find brush that's already there and fish it. Do you think twice about putting brushpiles out because you know that they can be easily found nowadays?

Hey Jacob...Doesn't bother me in the least, on either side of the issue...I put them out to attract fish, not mother hen them or claim all the fish off them. Great question though...and I am sure my view is probably a minority view!

Also wonder if there will be less brush in the lakes in the future because of this line of thinking?

I feel like I'd still put out brush because it's rewarding to catch fish off of something you created. Kind of like a food plot for deer.

I like this. I have told everyone that fishing our lake that is everyone that targets crappie would just put out two Bp's then there would be plenty for everyone. Thats the nice thing about SI... nothing is hidden when you have it tuned in.

May not seem fair to some but when you sink it, it's no longer yours....



Oh and to the guy who put the brushpile in Benbrook's main channel, it's no longer yours and it's no longer in the spot you put it...

I don't mind anyone fishing my piles and I don't mind fishing anyone else's piles if nobody's on it. The bass fishermen seem to love my piles.

You will never find my piles even with SI or DI! That's because I don't have any out there!

Jacob now that you have side imaging you will find so much new stuff with crappie on it, it will be tough to put out piles in the future, sometimes just a few old stumps in the middle of the lake will hold a ton of fish.

From May going forward I just pick different parts of the lake, troll and fish. There is always something that shows up with 8 or 10 big crappie on it that haven't seen a jig in years.

I still get a certain feeling of satisfaction when I catch fish off cover that I placed .

Similar to catching a fish with a rod you built or a jig you tied. That being said ,
a couple of " my " best spots are found rather than placed.
Ernest has said it is easier to find spots than place them.

I will continue to do both.

I've sank piles as long as I've chased crappie and will continue to do so. Can't stand seeing a perfect spot go unbrushed!!!

While you are absolutely correct that when a brush pile leaves your hand going into the water it is fair game, However, moving someone's brush pile is a matter of ethics. Instead of moving someone's brush pile build your own.

I actually touched on this topic a couple of years ago. It's easy to not do a single thing and reap the benefits of other people's hard work. It's completely legal and effective. With that being said, if our efforts to support a healthy population of fish, don't stay in line with our efforts to enhance technology, we are going to have problems. A great example of this can be seen in the country's economic problem, but that is a whole different conversation.

Some piles move on their own, especially brush with not enough weight ,
lakes have more current than most people think. We sunk a nice group of
Christmas trees on a point in 14 ft of water, We watched as they sank very slowly.
We came back later , nothing was there. I am sure they are someplace near, just
have not taken the time to look.
