New video is up guys. Come along as I meet up with George Saber and Henry Martin to chase alligator gar on the Trinity. This is Part 1 of a two-part series. Watch to the end to check out a preview for Part 2... it's pretty sweet.

Use that link to watch it in better quality on our website, or check it out on YouTube:

Hope you guys enjoy it!

Nice video. Fun to fight. I grew up in a honey hole for them.

I really couldn't tell from the video, Were you able to remove the treble hook before releasing him ?

We were not, unfortunately. We were able to cut the wire right at the hook, but we just couldn't get it out. Luckily it wasn't stainless and research has showed me that the mortality rate on these fish due to hooks is really low. They haven't survived for tens of millions of years because they're fragile. It was a learning lesson though, and I was better prepared when I returned for the Part 2 video.

I've never been gar fishing before, and I had no idea that you were supposed to wait that long to set the hook. Must be excruciating.

Nice vid as always.

Last time I tried it on the Nieces River I ended up with a 4-5 footer launching into my lap while trying to land it. I feared for my man parts seeing those teeth launching at me. eeks Went to Amsted the next weekend and ended up catching another on my Zara Spook...still having flashbacks from the previous week I was about to just cut the line on my new topwater and let him have it.

I'll stick to bass and let you play with the toothies.

I smash the barbs on my hooks to make it easier to either get the hook out or for it to fall out. Another guy told me a good trick. Take an arrow with you. Use the nock end to slide along the leader & push the hook out.

That arrow trick is a great tip.
