How do weather changes effect your fishing? Looking for simple feed back. I have been fishing here in Texas for four years now and have noticed especially during the late fall and winter time that when fronts come through the over all bite on the sunfish,Crappie, bass, and even the stock trout slows down. I know water temperature will play an important part in the bite but I am talking about the cold fronts in general or the storm fronts in general. Other anglers have told me it is the barometric pressure that effects the bite. They say that the barometric pressure has to be stable for at least two to three days for a good bite to take place. As for me I have have done good the day before a front arrives, poor the day of the front, poor the day after the front, and back to good two to three days after a front. Lets say you.

When these high pressure fronts come through it usually messes up the fishing. If the pressure is rising greater than .02 inches per hour the fishing is tough. If the pressure gets up around 30.4 the fishing is tough. The changing winds during the transition of the front really indicate the instability of the pressure system and it's tough until it stablilizes in one direction. The good thing is these pressure systems often move out quicker than predicted by weather channel models.
Also, the changes in pressure have less of an effect in deeper water.

Side Note: Usually "when the pressure is high the fish don't bite" is how the saying goes especially if it shoots up before a weather system comes in. I find this true in just about all water bodies. Have really never done all that good on the day of a front or the next day after.

I think the secret is stability. It does not matter so much what the barometric pressure is so long as it is stable for several days. That said, I have spent a good many years trying to figure out how barometric pressure influences the bite and I am still not sure.
The old timers used to say the best time to go was a low pressure rising to a high.
I think the best time to go is when you can.

Fish in current (rivers and creeks) are less effected by baro.

Thanks guys for the information. Learned a lot. Looks like we may get a good soaking early next week according to the forecast. We can use it.
