Ok guys I need some help with a new to me technique.
I've thrown a senko wacky rigged maybe a handful of times on a spinning reel but have never built any confidence in it so I quickly put it down. I think it's the spinning set up that I really don't like and not the wacky style so I'm thinking I'll try it with a bait caster.
Will a mh 7'3" tfo rod with a Lews tournament pro 6:4 work for this?
Would you use invixz of big game? What size?

As always I appreciate your feedback and look forward to building my confidence in this proven technique.

12 lb or 15 lb Invizx. I throw it on a bait-caster all the time.

I throw the w-rig on a Phenix mx72h and a Tatula 7.3:1. So your setup should be fine. I use 30lb 832 with a flouro leader.

Danny;
My wacky rigged Senko is what I caught our kicker fish on at Tawakoni for the 9th place finish in Bass Champs last June. Don't over think it. I was using a 6ft MH baitcaster Ugly Stick to catch that fish.
Use a 6-6 MH rod with baitcaster & 15 or 17# fluorocarbon to help it sink,,,, no worm weight, just a small crimped clam weight, right above the eye of the hook, if you want it to drop faster. If you are fishing on top of weedbeds use no weight at all. Use a weedless straight long shank hook and hook it straight thru middle of that Senko, none of that o-ring stuff. Cast it out there and jiggle. BOOM.....4# 14oz kicker. I have one rigged up on the boat all the time.
I was actually using 50# braid tied straight to the hook on our fish so I could horse it in, but I really like the 15# fluorocarbon for this.
dance2 as you can tell I really like this set up.

Danny, I always use a baitcaster with 15# Invizx.

I've caught some really good ones on Fork on a wacky Senko or Wave Worm. It is actually one of my favorite techniques just before the fish move up onto the beds. I am normally fishing it a little deeper than most and targeting big stumps in 6'-9' of water so I add a little weight. I like the Owner weedless wacky hook in a 1/0 or 2/0 size if I am using a 5' or 6" bait.

this guy nailed it. It's easier to cast it under docks and around cover with a BC. I started using whacky rigs on spinning gear and got used to using my right hand to hold the rod. So now I use a medium heavy rod and a left handed BC reel. Works great for me. It is easily in my top 5 techniques when the fishing gets tough. Speaking of nails...try a nail weight in one end of the worm.

Try it out with your bait casting rig. If you can cast it, you should be good to go.

TFO's run stiff for me, I would use a M in that line

or some other rod with a softer tip

Thanks guys. I will give it a shot on my setup and see how I like it and adjust from there.
I figure the Rayburn Costa event this week would be a good place to try it out, especially since I'm fishing from the back deck.

In about 2 weeks, you'll be able to throw it all day and you won't ever want to put it down.

This ^^^^^^

I throw the wacky rig on a 7ft M/H or 6ft 8in M/H rod because I work the bait with the tip pointed down to the water and give the bait little twitches. Your set up should work just fine. I use the Gamakatsu round hooks with the weed guard and O rings to hold the bait on and make it last longer. I use Senkos, Yum Dingers, and Wave worms for wacky rigging. I use a Grande Bass Snake-O and Lake Fork Tackle Hyper stick Tx. rigged weightless. I will have both on deck the Tx.weightless and the wacky. I will alternate between the two all day long when the fish are shallow like Ken described. I mostly throw the 5 inch and sometimes the 6 inch. I throw the 4 inch one wacky rigged with spinning gear but that is when I am bed fishing.

Good luck in that event Danny..... thumb

W-rig on a BC imo gives you more power to control the fish, it works great for me on a Dobyns SS 703 or 702 rod with any quality reel spooled with 6/20 braid connected to a high quality 12 -15 lb flowcarb leader tied to a VMC #3/0 W rig hook with the wire weed guard... I use Senko style baits and Trick worms adding a whole to a half nail depending on the wind and fall rate needed to trigger a strike.... cheers

are you guys able to throw a wacky rigged in any sort of cover at all, or does it catch up pretty easy?

I throw it to the edge of grass or pads and all around stumps and timber. It you feel it start to get hung on something then gently shake it and see if it will come out, don't just crank down on it right away. That will get it stuck for sure.
