Corp of Engineer lakes is illegal even with CHL.

This tends to be a grey area. Good luck on finding out which lake is a corp lake or not

U need a gun for a snake? Lol. Just pull out a paddle. I guarantee I've killed more snakes with a paddle than a gun. One swing and they're dead. And no police report to fill out after for discharging a weapon.

That said I still carry in the boat. . .but not for snakes. Lol.

-30.06 sign illegal to carry period for example Squaw Creek

-30.07 sign only illegal to open carry but can still carry concealed

-Castle Law- it is legal to carry concealed in your home or a vehicle including your boat unless one of these signs is posted

-Bottom line is obey the law, get trained, practice regularly, have a plan if you have to use your gun, and don't make a big deal about having one with you and no one will ever know. Mine is like my wallet, pocket knife, or ball cap, I feel naked without it!

See you on the lake and have a great day!

In 2014, a preliminary injunction was granted in federal court to stop any enforcement of a firearm ban on Corps property. http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2014/01...engineers-land/ There is a link in the article to read the actual injunction. I have not seen any updates to the preliminary injunction.

Last year, a bill was introduced to get the Corps to recognize state CHL permits. http://www.guns.com/2015/02/02/bills-filed-to-lift-army-corps-of-engineers-ban-on-guns/

Regardless, I think the preliminary injunction is still in effect. Does anyone know for sure? I recommend reading the actual injunction. It was pretty interesting how the judge weighed the 2A rights against the policy and justification the Corps tried to use in court. I think the reality is that there are a vast majority of boat ramps/facilities that are isolated and lack a police presence which clearly communicates you are on your own for self-defense should a situation arise.

My understanding is that State run parks are different and state laws apply.

The biggest problem I see is everywhere they prohibit a fire arm is exactly where you need one. Common since tells me don`t leave home with out it.

Its interesting on lakes like Conroe where several of the ramps are in the national forest on federal land, and some of the ramps are located on private/public property. To be honest, unless you are being an idiot, your not going to have an issue. I have not once ever had a warden ask if there was a gun in the boat or on my person.

^^^^^ absolutely... Ever see busted glass in the parking lot at a remote boat ramp ?? makes me question my decision to launch there.. I've seen it at Fork, Rayburn, and Roberts and that's just a few, I know there have been more.
I was at a finger printing location with a friend yesterday, I was amazed at the number of Females there.

Girls be pack'n too, my wife does when were in the boat... grin

On Corps of Engineer lakes the only persons permitted to carry a firearm in the boat are LEO's. Not only can it get you a ticket, but if you are carrying in a tournament you could be disqualified too. thumb

Would rather have a gun and not need it than need it and not have it...

Buster, I'm pro gun, but what you say is just not true. The instant you involve federal property, the state rules can become moot. Our state law even says this. Go read it carefully. I know there's a mess with the Corps of Engineers and that's being contested, so I'll use another example. If National wildlife refuges wish to prohibit firearms, they can readily do so without posting a sign called for in Texas code. They don't give a flip about your castle (vehicle or RV) once it's on federal property where they have chosen to have a rule/regulation. You'll be cited. It has been done and it has held up.

Strangely, some rules/regulations have been written without regard for certain other rules, regulations, or law. The pro-gun law and regulations seem to overlook the existence of some scenarios where the pro-gun rule is not allowable. They don't warn of this, but these situations do exist, and they can get otherwise completely upstanding citizens into a bind - for real.

Sometimes they do ask, or at least one did ask at least one time as I was the one being asked. It may have nothing to do with the firearm owner's conduct - officers sometimes choose to set up random checkpoints and check every vehicle/person passing through the checkpoint without exception. They may issue citations if they choose to do so, and may even choose to search for contraband, which they are allowed to do even if they have no particular interest in firearms matters. If they find one during a search, it can become an issue depending on the time and place. They can get pretty bent over it. Those of you who carry anyway may find out if you get unlucky.

You are right about federal property like the refuge in Lawton, Ok. those properties unfortunately are regulated by the feds and have different rules. I thought we were talking about your basic fishing lakes and rivers in Texas. If you go to a good CHL class, all of the where you can and can't is covered. I wish every law abiding citizen would carry everywhere, criminals would be a lot less likely to be stupid if they knew all of the good guys and gals were packing!

See you on the lake and have a great day!
