Hello all,

I have never really bass fished before and am wanting to get into it. I've primarily catfished most of my life. I just acquired a basscat jaguar and am trying to get a few mechanical problems worked out so I can start making some trips to Sam Rayburn. My question is where can I find some basic info on bass fishing for beginners. I know that experience teaches a lot but I would like a little bit of knowledge to get me started. Thanks.

Google is your best friend. It's FULLLLLLLLLLLLLL of good article and videos.

Youtube videos will show you several techniques. But you'll be much better off and learn quicker if you use a guide. They're worth it in the long run in saving you had and time trying to figure things or on your own.

Also maybe join a bad club and backseat with some people at first

Get yourself a copy of Roland Martins book 101 Ways to Catch Bass. There are many others out there, but if you just work on Knots and 3 or 4 techniques for the 1st 2 months you will enjoy yourself more. Good Luck!

Hire a good guide. You will learn more from a good guide in one day than you will in a year by yourself.

Things like:

How not to tear up your boat idling through the stumps
How to rig baits properly
How to read your graph
How to fish deepwater

It will be money well spent.

All excellent suggestions, because knowledge is power. It will tell you what you should be doing and this spring will be a great time to start. Start your studies with shallow water fishing for bedding bass then go from there. Not only is home work important but good equipment and depth finders on your boat will make the journey more productive. Hire as many teaching guides like Mr. Biggs as you can afford to cut a corner or two. Start with just one lake and only fish it until you have mastered it. There may not be a lot of guides on the lake you have chosen but good people like Mr. Biggs will come to you, fish out of your boat, help you master your equipment, break the lake down and show you things that you have not studied in all your research. This is time and money well spent before you go out and purchase every bait that you read about and get discouraged when you do not get a bite.

I tell you like I tell all the young guys, going with me to Mexico on a drive in trip is one of the fastest ways to learn what catching is all about. By the end of the first day you will have felt what every kind of bite there is feels like. Then when you come back to your home lake you will be much more successful using several different techniques that you can apply.

Everything above is great. Guides, YouTube, a club to force you to fish lakes you wouldn't fish and get diverse as an angler, and time.

Fishing with people better than you is critical to improving.

Then you'll be bitten by the bug and be a hopeless addict like the rest of us.

The bass university is also a good resource. I've learned a lot from watching the seminars online. Flukemaster on youtube is also a great teacher. Good luck!

Nothing you can do will beat time on the water. If you don't go practice you wont get any better. If you have a swimming pool you can work on technique there as well
