The main thing is Hi Viz. If you can find braid that you can see really well, that should work fine. You don't feel the bites very often and have to watch your line to tell when you have a bite. Sometimes it will just be a tiny little twitch so you have to be able to see the line.

Look on the rod and see what line its made for. Start about the middle and after using it you will know what works for you.

Go with a lighter jig so it falls slower or stick with mono to slow the fall.

In a word...no. You should not try to shoot heavier than a 1/16 oz jig head (1/32 oz is better). Braid will not come off the spool like mono will and consequently you shot will not go far (you need to shoot out the back side if you can make it happen). I've always used a +/- 5'6" rod in med light. Don't use a UL as you will have trouble getting a larger fish out...if you can hook him at all with an UL. Use either 6# or 8#, but not heavier than 8#. Watch your line for it to 'jump' as a lot of bites will come on the drop. Wooden supported docks seem to hold more fish than any other kind. Don't use a big bait. I usually use a 1 1/2" straight tail bait. Good luck and let me know if I can help.

You want a 5 1/2 to 6ft medium light rod when shooting docks. I use high vis mono because you see strikes more than feeling them. I never use braid for dock shooting because it does not shoot as far as mono IMHO. You want your bait to fall thru the strike zone as slow as possible. I like a 2 1/2 - 3 inch plastic bait on a 1/32 or 1/24 jighead with a #4 hook. You can't find this jighead at tackle stores so I order mines on EBay. You can either bounce the jig along the bottom or let it swing back to you depending on the depth of the water and the depth of the dock. I have learned to fish docks with a spincasting outfit. I can skip a jig in tight spots pretty good with a underhand cast. The most important thing with dock shooting is becoming a line watcher and fishing the slowest falling jig you can get away with.

6 pound hi-viz line and a 1/16 jig...that's all you need to start and finish with. Been shooting docks for over 20 years...tried it all...and this set-up works great. You can get adventurous and go down to a 1/32 and even down to 4 pound line with 1/64...and even on down to 2 pound line with 1/100 jigs but 6 and 1/16 is just fine
