What is the consensus on SI on the bow, do you use it much there or is it more a console oriented feature.
thanks for the info.

Why not. I don't personally but it's good idea if you fish offshore. I would not put the transducer on the trolling motor even though it's probably done all time. In my opinion(not worth much) it seems that the constant turning of the TM would alter the picture but I don't know for sure if it does. The transducer doesn't have to go in the front just because the graph is.

This has been asked several times. Some will say no to the bow but others will swear you will benefit from it. I have it on the bow but never use it. Not as good as at the console but you can turn the tm and aim it to get readings. It will distort it a little but if you are good at reading them, you can use it. I don't use it simply because I find the structure with my console unit then go to the bow and my eyesight isn't as good as it used to be to read the unit standing and it on the deck.

I added 3D to my console. So it left me with a lss2 so I put it my trolling motor using the transducer saver with the airmar 150 and I am glad I did. One of the things I did is ran heavier wire from the battery to all of my hds9 I think I get a much better picture now. Shoot me a pm I will send you some pictures of the quality I get from it

I just started using Si on the bow. I actually like it but it depends on how i'm fishing. If I'm burning bank I don't use it at all. If I'm off shore then I usually have it on. Do yourself a favor and don't have your settings too far out. Use 50ft or less. It's amazing the small details you will notice

I have had SI up front for several years, it like other toys we have is a tool. If I am fishing boat docks, and I do a lot, it helps me pinpoint where brush may be out away from the dock. Now if I am in 25' of water on a brush pile for crappie or using a drop shot, I may not use it. It all depends on what you see as an advantage for how you fish.
For the record I tried going without it for about 6 months, had to have it back up there.

Thanks for all of the comments.. I think that I would rather have it at the console and have DI on the bow. My current bow unit is an old HB 746c.. which was an upgrade over what I had there, but the curve is just about straight up on all electronics.. so its just about a flasher relative to what is available now.

I use SI on the bow all of the time. Use cases: 1. Searching for fish on flats. It works great in shallow water. 2. Searching for structure or cover. I can see where the weed line or ledge or rock pile is and not have to be on top of it 3. Identify bottom composition changes. 4. See under docks
SI works best when moving and you have to keep an eye on where your TM is pointed but I will not have another boat without SI on the bow.

This. I have a 998 on the bow. I use it all the time shallow or deep. Real-time feedback on the structure/cover. I love fishing from the back deck of a boat that only has the transducer at the back...I use the in-dash SI to target what the guy on the front never saw till it was parallel to me. Now it's mine...
