Do you think it's right for the government to build boat ramps on many lakes with tax payers dollars and then allow someone to charge you a fee to use it after , you , the taxpayer has paid to have it built and maintained

Actually, yes. Even though it is "double taxation" it also keeps some of the less desirable people away. Saying that, it works only if applied as an entrance fee to the park.

obviously they're not getting rich off the boat ramps, so their revenue isn't exorbitant for what they offer. if they didn't have a ramp fee, then the taxes for everyone else would be higher and I don't think that would be fair for the 99.99% of payers that don't use the ramp. I'm very Libertarian minded and feel like there needs to be more use fees/taxes vs. general taxes. There is less visibility for the tax base when their payments are being put into one general fund. If there were use taxes then people would have a better idea how well the jurisdiction was spending each dollar and people wouldn't be paying for things they don't use.

I guess current system is a happy medium where the use tax isn't crazy high because it is offset by all the people that don't even use it.

If you don't like to pay, find a free ramp in the far corners of the lake and hope your car/truck will still be there. But if you own a boat, what's a little ramp fee

Of course it's not right; unfortunately, that's way our government operates these days.

Have no problem with it whats a couple bucks here and there anyway. If its a Corp ramp just buy the yearly pass for 30 bucks and its good at any Corp ramp in the state.

Pay for it then recoup the money. Sounds logical to me. Keep voicing concerns and make it a hit topic and the 95% of tax payers who never use one will put a halt to wasting tax money on a few and then you'll have no ramps to launch on and no complaints

I am like most I rather pay a little and feel my stuff will be safe. Her in Waco the three free ramps are prime spots for the thieves.
From some of the post I read y'all in the metro area have the same problem. If you are over 62 get a golden age pass for $10. and get in A.C.E. parks free.

State parks are paid for with tax dollars and charge an entry fee. Do you have the same issue with that?

I guess you could do like the guys I saw this morning. I had three boats pull into the entrance on Monticello in front of me . Only one of the three paid. The other two said they didn't think it was necessary.

I don't mind paying ramp fees, as mentioned above, keeps certain people away.
I've seen posts where parking at a free out of the way ramp, the Poster came back to
just ONE tire left on his tandem trailer, trucks vandalized etc.
