Last night I went out might fishing thinking that I had a decent plan to catch a few fish, but I never even got a bite in the few hours I was there.

I anchored up on about 3 different spots on a mud flat in 18-20 foot of water that had a ton of scattered timber on it to start off the night, and I marked fish and bait fish in the area, but no takers. So I moved on to a big drop off I knew of that was covered in rock and marked a massive bait ball and what looked like fish underneath it, and again... nada. Then I also drifted across that mud flat and then I got to cold and went home.

Any other ideas on where I should be looking? Water temp was about 49 before the sun went down, and dropped to around 46 by the time I left

Just keep on a kickin and doin what your doin. Watch the finder and take snapshots then fish. Sooner or later you'll get a good snapshot and catch some good ones. You'll just get better from there most likely. And make sure you spend some good time hovering over and checkin out deep water as well. cheers

Thanks for the advice optimus! The sad thing is that is about the deepest this lake gets. I was going to go up towards the dam and drift around that area, but got to cold before I headed in.

There's a couple more places I'm going to try next time I'm out, unless the water warms significantly by then anyways

What lake? I have been catching several fish each time I fish with usually one monster bite. That is when they bite. I was at Lake Murvaul a few nights ago and it looked good. I mean I was surrounded by thousands of shad from 2" to 1Lb and maybe two bites all night. Towards the end I realized there were predators out there, but they were crappie. Channels have been fair at Martin Creek, and I always do pretty well at Toledo Bend with big Blues. Just keep hammering away and everything will line up, and each time it does you will see a little more of the big picture. I can see more now than I could when I first started, yet I know there is a lot more that these pros see that I don't and it all makes a difference.

Deep water fishing isn't working well this time of year. Maybe it's the water level...I'm not too sure. Try shallow water. I've been finding them in water no deeper than 15'. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions, looks like I may be going farther north up the lake next time I'm out there!

Maybe a flatty would be willing to eat a live bluegill this early in the year... hmmm
