I have a Ranger 188VS with a Yamaha F150 Four Stroke and am presently installing an 8" Hydraulic Jackplate with a Cavitation Plate. I am currently running the stock prop that came with the motor and for some reason it is a Yamaha saltwater series 21 pitch 3 blade prop. Top recommended rpm's on the motor is 5-6K. I am desperately attempting to improve my shallow water (<18" deep) hole shot to enable me to get on step in the very shallow water. I fished in a very shallow lake in a tournament last weekend and caught 20 pounds (very good for south Louisiana) out of a 21 foot Bullet with a 250 Pro XS with hydraulic jack plate and after many attempts we were able to get up on plane but it was very very difficult but worth it as we ended up winning the $1,000.00 first prize. I am hoping I can get my 18 foot ranger up on plane in the same location for a tournament next weekend. Please provide any prop or set-up recommendations that you might have to enable me to get up in the shallowest of water. I will sacrifice some top end speed to achieve better very shallow water performance. Thanks in advance.

Try a Powertech CFS 4 blade in a 19 pitch. Might have to drop down to a 18pitch they are harder to turn than a normal 4 blade prop. I can run that prop with almost a blade out of the water.

Learn the padre spin out to get up. Takes half the water as just trying to launch out straight ahead.

Ok dude, here's how you get that tub up in 18" of water with a soft bottom...
Get your partner to lay out on the front deck, the flatter you make the hull the better. Crank the wheel full right turn. RIGHT TURN ONLY!! Everyone lean right, when you do, it tilts the motor right, which gives you more water to work in. Hit the throttle hard, try to get the boat to start to spin right, when you do it you'll push a bubble of water out in front. Usually at about 180 degrees, you yank hard left, which puts the boat up on top of the bubble and you're gone. Are you going to mess it up the first few times? Absolutely, most guys are too careful and too slow, be aggressive, you're stuck anyway got nothing to lose.
The faster you get the spin going, the higher the wall of water will be, do it right and you'll have nearly dry ground behind you.
