Hey TFF. I am hopeful that someone will see this message and be gracious enough to help me out. I have been interested in this lake for sometime and am seriously considering purchasing property here in the next year or so. I have heard good things about the lake and for the price I cant find anything in comparison. I would really like to see and fish the lake to get a feel for it. I have my own boat of course but from what I have gathered it does not sound like I could bring my boat on the lake. Even if I knew someone in the community. If someone with access or who lives here would be kind enough to let me tag along I would be happy to compensate. I am an experienced bass fisherman and just want to know what the lake is all about. I have also looked at property on Lake Lone Star but it is such a hike from DFW. Please feel free to PM me, or call/text

Bradshuflinakahunters'dad is on here a lot. He has a place on Kiowa does real well there. I'm sure he will answer you or send him a PM. I fished with him one time on the lake as a guest. Caught some fish but none of the monsters he normally catches. Look up his posts. He has quite a few pictures of fish he has caught on Kiowa.

Here are my 2 best tournaments from last year also weighted a 8.79 in the June tournament, most tournaments out there take 22-24lbs to win. Lots of 2-4lbers to catch, probably will spoil you if you get a place out there. I have had 28-35 lb best 5's to many times to count. My personal best out there is 9.5 and 9.2 both caught summer before last fishing deep structure. Lots of different ways to fish from flipping docks, cranking rocks, fishing humps or road beds. http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/11081978/Searchpage/1/Main/891793/Words/Kiowa+/Search/true/Re:_24lbs_6oz_and_8lb_kicker_J#Post11081978

Richard, We looked at purchasing the "island" up there years ago. It eventually was auctioned and I believe the buyers built a new home on it.
I have always heard the fishing is exceptional.
One note: Lake Kiowa has suffered at least one severe flood, one for sure not so many years ago. Youtube used to have some video of it. Not sure how Lake Kiowa did after the record rains last year but that would be a good test.
Anyway, you might want to buy something with some elevation off the water!

As far as I know no homes had water in them boat houses did, mine had about 2 ft of water in the room, with the fixed spillway the water never gets more than 4ft high at a ft over pool it goes over the spillway and into Ray roberts.

Brad said it will probably spoil you but in all honesty there is no room for probably in that sentence.

Brad, I can't recall which flood it was that affected homes on Lake Kiowa but here is one report where it mentions 30 were. Oddly, the date on the article says 1969 but that is a typo of some sort because the article then goes on to mention Governor Rick Perry paying a visit to the flooded area. Anyway, back to buying on a lake or a river, not just Lake Kiowa but anywhere, it pays to do as much research as you can to try to stay "above it all." Here: Lake Kiowa Flood Brad

Well I the lake front house we have has never seen water close to it and it's actually closer to the water than what the hoa allows now, some of the houses on the north west side may have flooded, but it wouldn't have been from the lake level as much as water drainage issues. I'm not saying the artical is untrue but I never heard of any homes with water in them. Like I said earlier almost every boat dock on the lake had 2-4 ft of water in them. My family has owned a house out there since 1978 and the water this past spring/summer was the highest they had seen in that time period.

I think you are correct, Brad, that these were likely homes up on that end of the lake, this back in 2007. Most remained high and dry. Gainesville, itself, was really affected by the flood as were several highways in the area near Lake Kiowa. And, not just for this lake, but any lake, there is that chance of water coming in along the main creek or river feed, or primary watershed . . . and sort of stacking up where it then expands out laterally. The spillway typically controls the height water can get in a reservoir except under extremes. It seems to me that almost all lakes have a few homes or sub-divisions that are susceptible to flooding especially those built way back before Flood Zone maps were more readily available. Brad
