So would anyone recommend using live bait for white bass? If so what kind? And where could I buy them or find them in the lakes or creeks this time of year?

You don't need it. Save the money and buy and spinner of some sort, it'll last longer.

Small thread fin shad if you can net them. Minnows will also work just as good and easier to get if you buy them

I've seen crawfish do well on spawning whites. But I agree with Catcherman, the right artificial will do just as good without the pain of dealing with live bait.
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space!

...have had excellent luck on small Crawfish out of the ditches but prefer road runners. Which gulp do you use, iv got some leftover swimming mullets, thought about trying them.

I've caught lots of sandbass fishing the bank with a small white crappie jig under a bobber.

My experience with fishing the white bass run in Canyon Lake for 10 years has been this :
1. Native spotted tail minnows, you have to seine them, but it's worth it. 2. Shiners, I have started using large shiners, I catch less whites but those that I catch tend to be bigger. 3. Road runners, I use chartreuse and white in Canyon.

I haven't fished live bait in a while but it seemed that the natural baits out caught store bought minnows. but the store bought minnows did catch. But when you find that one artificial that they like its hard to beat! I use 1/4 oz Roadrunners with a red head and white grub for the most part and 1/8 oz rattle traps.

Always a good idea to have some. Minnows work well when the bite slows down.
