When bass fishing in particularly muddy water the fish stick real tight to cover. Do catfish have similar behavior as bass? In the fall seems to be the best time to find bass in the muddy creeks shallow. I have been staying fairly deep at lake fork and catching catfish well baiting with cubes but was curious if others were doing it different than I?

The reason for this question is on several occasions I have rigged up and fished shallow brushy areas with Stubbys like I would a crappie jig. I have been fairly successful catching channel cats and most of them were good box fish. If I do not have time to bait my deep water spot a day or so ahead of time I just try to put the cheese on their head. Most times I can do darn well without chumming.

Chumming will only bring the Channels in. Shad is the key to finding blue kitties. You can't chum for them. Most of the time, regardless of water clarity, catfish can be found near submerged timber, creek beds, and other structure. If you can't chum in advance, try looking for roosting birds. You should do well near them as well.
If you're after the catfish, give Dusty a call!

My favorite water color in the background. I always tend to catch better and more when the water is murky to chocolate and especially if fishing shallow which I do most of the time. If you can find them nasty bird roosts you will find the blues. They love that bird poop chum. The spots I chum with my soured grain produce about a 50/50 mix of eater blues and channels on my home made dough bait.
