Came back to Weatherford with my tail between my legs. Fished hard. Deep, shallow, guts cuts & flats, shipping channel, live bait, dead bait, artificials, didn't catch anything but hard heads. I haven't had my tail whipped this bad at the coast since I was 21 (7 years ago) also never fished it in February, either. I did get to rebuild a hub on my trailer though. Be back at it come May or June. I know they were somewhere, I just couldn't find them. I've done exponentially better walk-in wading and out of my kayak.

Bays can be a real challenge sometime, being tuned into freshwater it gets tough adapting to the very small changes that make very large differences.

Send me a PM when you're heading back down. Maybe we can go find a few of those nasty ol' redfish and regain your confidence.

Game fish are in the "spring migration pattern" right now so it's kinda like you are using the 'heading them off at the pass' mentality.

The nuances of nature this time of year, with the constant changing weather and wind patterns, will relocate fish every few days to almost daily until we reach the steady weather patterns of late spring into summer. It's almost like you could write a book on the subject about all the subtle changes that make a big difference.

Deal is when you locate a school of'em it's on !!!

One wake, one mullet, one little cloud of mud can be your clue to find the load of your dreams.

Some HS anglers from Michigan here in Texas on spring break used the tips from the WadeFish Rockport Book & DVD to make a memory for a lifetime catching this BIG RED !!!

This weather system we are experiencing right now is perfect for Rockport and the coastal bend this time of year.

Low pressure causing coastal flooding from the Gulf of Mexico while we get - just about, the perfect amount of rain to back up that tidal surge.

The result will be some awesome fishing when the sun comes out and these winds settle down.

Grinder,

Do you have any preliminary reports on the improvements Cedar Bayou has had on the Aransas Bay fishing system? Have people been able to start catching keepers up in Copano again? Once Cedar Bayou got all silted up, I felt like you couldn't catch any good trout up in Copano. I've been going down for over 25 years, and we've been banking on the restoration of Cedar Bayou. I'm hoping the continued "normalization" of conditions will help!

FW2: I am seeing crabs swimming by me while wade fishing in the back bays since Cedar Bayou has been opened. That's a good sign. Good rains - as well as Cedar Bayou being opened - has things "alive" and thriving again.

Wade fished grass lines today since tides were up looking for reds and found some decent, steady action - but only 1 red made the slot. All trout caught were worthy of being on the stringer.

High tide started moving @ 9a m today.

I was curious if anyone knew of some decent kayak launch points relatively close to good fishing in the Rockport area?? I have my first weekend off in ages and want to take the new yak out this Friday evening and Saturday.... Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Stay safe out there!!

Daniel

If you're looking closer to Rockport, I'd probably drop in at Palm Harbor and fish the Estes Flats and Traylor Island. If you're willing to travel a little more, I'd try to drop in on the intercostal canal across from the Light House lakes and try to fish that area. Either way, I think both are decent spots that are wind protected and have plenty of real estate to fish. Make sure to show us some pics!

da_karr, any of the 17 locations in the Wadefish Rockport Book & DVD has valuable real estate for fishing to accommodate an angler using a kayak.

Google Maps

Lots of great places to put in to kayak fish in the Rockport area. Estes Flats is a good option right and shouldn't be as impacted from all the rain.
