Going on a week trip in May with some friends to Destin and I was thinking about bringing a couple rods. Anything decent fishing that time of year? piers, jettys, etc? I am not familiar with the area and just wondering if it would be worth it. Thanks
edit: Where I am staying is close to Destin Harbor

I took my fly rod to Destin last summer and caught lots of ladyfish in the surf inf front of our house first thing in the morning. It was a lot of fun!

I lived and fished in Destin for a number of years while stationed nearby. April/May are prime fishing months with the pompano run starting mid/late April. Here's my advice for simple, effective vacation fishing.
Bring a 7' medium rod with 10-20lb test, pick up some pompano jigs from Half Hitch, local tackle shop. Walk out to jetties/pier/surf and tip the jigs with fresh shrimp tail or live sand fleas. Cast out, let sink, jig, jig, jig, set the hook! You'll get into pompano, reds, Spanish, whiting, ladyfish, bluefish, and maybe even a trout/flounder or two. It's all I do when I go back and vacation there. Not a lot of gear needed. Pocket full of jigs and bucket of shrimp/fleas. Enjoy!
