I've got a 2005 225 hpdi, and #6 has about 45lbs compression where 1-5 are at 100-105. Motor has been torn apart and the wall of 6 is pretty marred up. I've been quoted on a reman power head, and I feel like it's way high. Unfortunately I'm limited on marine mechanics, if the price is worth it I'd be willing to drive it somewhere to have someone fix it. Anybody in here a mechanic? Let's have some estimates!

Did you check with these guys? http://www.texasoutboardrebuild.com/index.htmlThey are down past Cedar Creek; however, I think on their website the will ship a block and you install it. These guys are the gurus, but it won't be cheap. http://www.hydrotecmarine.comI haven't pulled a powerhead yet, but I would guess that you are going to have to strip and pull the existing head to take it to a machine shop to get the cylinder sleeved if it is really torn up. The real question though is what caused the #6 failure. If that's not fixed, then the same will happen with a new head. Maybe Gary will chime in.

The mechanic thinks it sat for a long time before I bought it and maybe the ring had rusted to the cylinder and when I fired it off it broke free and started scratching everything all to heck.

Saw you got some responses to your other post. I also remembered Chris Carson Marine in FL. They do Yamie rebuilds. It looks like HydroTec has a Ox66 2003 rebuilt 225 for $8K. One other route you could go is to part-out the HPDI and re-power. If you want the best possible outcome, HydroTec has the reputation, but it likely won't be the cheapest option.
If you are somewhat mechanically included and low on funds or want to keep costs down, pick-up a Seloc manual and see what's involved. It will be a lot of work to strip the powerhead.

I can help you chad but it is going to cost between 4 and 5 K to fix this motor right. When a piston goes out in these motors it gets pieces of aluminum everywhere mainly in the bearings. All of the cooling, fuel and electrical systems will need checked and repaired.
