While out on the prowl looking for good BBQ, I will end up with a bag of baby back rib bones. Are they safe to give to my golden retriever or do they splinter too much and cause damage to the dog ? Sorry for the off topic question, just needed an answer. Thanks, JP

No they are not dogs safe. Once bones are cooked any way they become brittle and will splinter causing internal issues.
Best of luck, Scott

No they are not dogs safe. Once bones are cooked any way they become brittle and will splinter causing internal issues. I've had many Vets tell me this, but raw uncooked bones are fine.

Thank you for your lightning fast responses. I guess he will just have to be content with Happy Meals and Big Macs. Thanks again, JP

Raw, yes. Cooked, no.
The reason is because cooking makes bones brittle and they can shatter into sharp pieces.
Even poultry bones are safe when raw. Just don't feed too many in case of upset stomach.
