Having caught pike on flies in Ontario, my one big piece of advice is to ALWAYS use a strong wire leader. I can't tell you how many flies and spinning lures I lost to pike while targeting smallies on my Ontario trip last summer. It was definitely a war of attrition, and the pike won.

PS Those pike really tear up the flies, so be sure to use durable materials.

Yes sir. I got 30 ft of 18 lb test Knot to Kninky wire to tie for the bite leaders. I'm also bringing my vise and mats, so I should be good for the week. Another popper ready to go.

i'd suggest using 5-6 ft of straight 60lb wire, preferably black nylon coated surflon.

That is what I used on my pike trip and thats the only thing the outfitter would let the clients use as they've seen to many other leader setups break.
