I ran into a guy coming off of Lewisville in about a 14ft or 15ft flat bottom Tracker with a 25hp Mercury and asked him the very question you are asking. What he told me was that he goes to any lake he chooses but will not venture out if the winds are 15mph or higher. He said he has a friend with a big bass boat that they use if the winds are up. He got his boat so that they could fish shallows and rivers.

Thanks Joe! I figured I'd have to pick the days when I could venture out far enough. I'll have to learn how to handle tough water in the event I get caught out when the wind picks up.
