I went to Sam yesterday. Fish only seemed to be biting Carolina rig. My issue was I was pulling through the grass a lot. And bringing it up with me. So I'm sure this disturbed my bite as well as the grass. The co angler didn't have that problem. He was using a cylinder type weight I was using a egg. What's the best weight to stop the grass from hanging up on the weight? I'm guessing a tungsten bullet?

I believe the bullet weight would be best for this. I will say one of the reasons a C-Rig is so good because it does disturb the bottom which brings the fish over to see what is going on. This is when they see your floating bait and bite. I don't think you pulling a little grass is killing your bite. most .02

I always use the cylinder type weights for C rigs. BPS sells them. They do work better in grass and such.

This is a really good question. One I haven't thought about much. I am looking forward to reading this thread.

Didn't you kind of answer your own question??

If you are sharing the boat with someone and what they are doing is working better than what you are doing, switch!!

Oh I caught fish. I just did it catch he wasn't pulling up grass till the end of the day when I broke off and had to re tie. I had no cylinder weights. But did have some tungsten bullets. I prolly caught 15-20 fish. Could've been more. We don't have hydrilla here so I'm not use to it.

I use a steel cylinder weight in most situations unless fishing chunk rock then I'll switch to a big bullet weight turned around backwards. I'm not sure it's the best way to fish a crig in rocks, but the larger surface area of the bullet weight on the front doesn't get snagged as much for me.

I use the bullet weight for all my c-rigging it does not hang up as much and other weights that I have used. the clue you are looking for on big Sam is leader length in the grass. this allows for your lure to skim the top of the grass or snag through it. good luck

I always use as light a weight as I can get by with when fishing a C-Rig. What ever is down there I want it coming over it with ease and not get hung up. If there is no wind I can do 25 ft. depth with a 3/16 Tungsten bullet pegged with no issues of pulling up grass or getting hung up on hardwoods. I do a lot of dragging with a few cast across the points when I come to them. Mostly I am dragging on contour at 20 to 25 ft. in as heavy cover I can find. The lighter weight has served me well as opposed to a 3/4 oz. weight.

Each person you work with holds some promise to your future success.

Phenix Finesse Sliders

Have you tried these? Of the few lakes that have grass in my general area, they have a lot, and these perform very well. I normally use a 1/2 or 3/4 worm weight for C-rigs but you have to have the Finesse Sliders for grassy area. They come through the grass very well and they hold up to numerous rocks. They're great little sinkers! The best advice I can give you is to use as light a weight as possible.

I asked this question to two Hall of Famers at Bass Pro this weekend, they said start with 36", and one of them felt like he might start at 24 " in shallow water.

I have always used a bullet weight but have changed to the tungsten bullet now. Never have a ton of problems.

When i watched him, his line was very tight. And when he'd drag you would see it stay tight but as i dragged you could see my rod dragging through the grass. His was tiff the whole time never flex. Was thinking on way home he must've been on bottom and I was on top.
