Took another little trip to the Yegua Creek this morning in search of whites and crappie. I'm a pretty regular visitor to the creek this time of year and always have managed to find me a nice mess of crappie and whites. This year has been somewhat different. I've had a heck of a time finding the whites and crappie, but the LMB are thick in the Yegua. I'm sure the whites are much further upstream. Didn't matter what I dropped in the water, those bass took the bait. Jigs, spinner baits, grub worms etc....I can't even count how many I caught today. Most small, but there were several nice size bass that I was surprised were even residing in the Yegua. The biggest one, broke my 6lb test line right as I was about to haul it onto my yak. Disappointed I didn't get the chance to photograph that hog. Sunfish were also plentiful, which is a species, I hardly every catch on the Yegua. Met several nice kayakers out on the water, and several john boats passing through. Hit nails creek last Sunday, and was also disappointed with the Crappie count in my basket. As I paddled back out of the Yegua and onto the open lake, I thought for one moment that I could fish the upper part of Nails. It was getting late, and I decided to make the boat ramp before sunset. Came home with an empty cooler today, but flying solo on the creek is always a good way to spend a beautiful Saturday. Peace and tranquility and just getting to disconnect from everyday life. That's what it is all about.
