My advice is to gravitate toward the longest boat you can afford if you plan to be on any larger bodies of water that can get rough. Smaller "first boats" will beat you to death and are no fun at all; lakes are rough more than they are calm it seems! So, in doing trade-offs of what to buy, for instance, go a couple years older to get more boat.
There are good boats out there with a few years on them that are just fine: Low hours, garage kept, opportunity to have a lot more boat with the right one.

I'd have no problem buying a Nitro. The later model years are suppose to have better quality.

This is seriously a real good deal. 9500.00 low hours, freshly serviced Terrova 24v with hand remote. The reason they are selling is because of moving in May this year.

You need to listen to Flippin-Out about the size of boat you buy. You will find out real fast about a 17ft boat will beat you to death in windy weather and if your on a big lake where's there bigger waves it's not fun. I've had 2 Nitro's and have had good luck with mine but I started with an 18-4 ft. and some times the lakes made you wonder what you were doing out there. So like Flippin-Out said I'd think more about a bigger boat. There's plenty of 2nd hand boats out there that you could get a deal on if you look . Good luck.

Cheap boats have been know to come apart in rough water. Now this does not mean I would drop 3'.

I have a 97 Nitro 800 with a Mercury 150 xr6. I bought it new and it has been solid. I love bass fishing and my boat! Good luck with your choice.

buy the biggest newest boat you can afford, or fits into the storage space you have. The NX series nitros handle water well. I have a 17'6, ( dang HOA makes me put in garage ) And there are days on the water where the wind kicks up where I am limited where I can fish and where I can run that might not limit a 19 ft boat.
Nitros tend to underpower some of the models. Mine has the 115 where the max for that year was 135, ( I don't know if merc made a 135 in 2005. ) but most of that size come with the 90. I upgraded the trolling motor and charger ( 24v and 3 bank) when I bought it in 2007,
Overall, I have been happy with mine. No major issue with motor or hull, I take care of it. I had a cracked Axle and bought a replacement axle and installed about two years ago, but that's really it. I fish 30-40 days a year, with a few regular one day and working man tourneys thrown in.

Mine is the little brother of his single console version. It's rough as hell in a slight breeze. Lol. But, otherwise, a VERY dependable boat. Mine is on the water 3-4 days a week. For years. It's 18 years old. Has 1000's or hours on it. Looks better than the average 4-5yr old "high end"'brand boat I see. I know this is not normal. I have a friend with the exact same boat, his looks like hammered hell. And the Mariner motor on his is nothing but major problems. Mine had a Mercury. Old design...nothing special....but nothing to break on it either.

I have a 2009 Nitro Z7 (18 ft 8 in) with a 150 Mercury EFI. It has been a good, solid boat. I have used it only on two lakes, Falcon and Fork. I fish the Mexican side of Falcon a lot, and this Z7 has done an amazing job there getting me home in some pretty rank water. I had to replace the on board battery charger after about 4 years, but that is about all the repairs/replacements needed except tires and batteries. I think this has been about as good of a value as I could have gotten for my money. Hope this helps. Feel free to pm me for any more specifics you need.

A couple more things. I agree, get the biggest boat you can especially if you plan to fish Toledo, Big Sam, and Falcon. Also, considering a mid-late 2000s boat, I would be much more concerned with motor problems than boat problems.

I have a Nitro Z8 and I absolutely love it. There are a few things that I'd change if I could like the storage layout but overall, I am very happy with it. The boat handles the abuse I put it through very well.

Thanks I currently own a 2013 Nitro and it is great! But for your first boat, I recommend a used Ranger, Skeeter, Champion, Basscat because when you get ready to sell it in the future, I think it will help you. Just be sure to do your homework like your doing and consider taking an experienced boat owner with you to check out used rigs/motors.

Thanks Are you sure they are a little less inexpensive? ...read carefully, now. This question will be on the hot water heater test....
